That trade would only make sense if the Bears were keeping Justin Fields obviously. We'd end up with Fields/Harrison/#9 (DE?) and probably the best center in the draft at 34 and a safety at 68 imo. But you're probably right, somebody else would be more desperate from a lower position like Carolina and we could end up with much more if we go the keep Fields route. So highly unlikely.

In other news...Everybody keeps arguing about what kind of draft return we could get in trading Fields. But is it possible that if we trade him, we trade him for another NFL player? Are there any good players out there that could help us that teams would trade for Fields?

I just think being a 2nd or 3rd is about right for Justin,I think a team needing that qb would rather give a draft pick rather than said player of value,otherwise that said team would have to replace that plsyer on top of qb.......

But other than that I have no idea......

It's not Williams vs Fielss but Williams vs Fields AND a litany of draft stock. If, either way Chicago has the same quarterback then why not keep the one in house and get a bevy of picks that can speed-up the rebuilding process in a season or two?
There are also other options (not a Bears fan but it's an interesting problem). You can trade the #1 AND trade Fields and take a different QB either at a new trade spot (like Maye at #2), or at the original #9 spot and take somebody else with a higher pick (like Marvin Harrison Jr.).

The QBs at #9 are just a lateral move or worst from Justin Fields.
I'll pass

Mahomes was drafted at #10. Depends on getting an accurate valuation of a QB for your franchise. (Trubitsky was the top-rated QB that year.) And a rookie drafted there will give you more cap space than keeping Fields.

I think this is the main driving force for going with the rook. Granted, if Fields was a no-question-must-keep performer, we obviously wouldn't be having this discussion and instead we'd all be speculating as to which team and how much booty Poles would receive in trading the #1 pick. But because Fields has not completely proven himself, that rookie contract vs Fields pay raise just around the corner is probably playing a large role in the decision making process.

But more times than not, the top of the draft have a higher hit rate:
2011: #1 Cam Newton -> #8 Jack Locker, #12 Christian Ponder
2012: #1 Andrew Luck -> #8 Ryan Tannehill, #22 Brandon Weeden
2016: #1 Jared Goff -> #26 Paxton Lynch
2018: #1 Baker Mayfield -> #10 Josh Rosen
2019: #1 Kyler Murray -> #6 Daniel Jones, #15 Dwayne Haskins
2021: #1 Trevor Lawrence -> #11 Justin Fields, #15 Mac Jones

Yep. I was just comparing top picks vs later 1st round picks but 2020 class had Burrow, Tua, Herbert in the top 6 and Jordan Love at #26

That’s true, but - Josh Allen was #7 in 2028 behind Baker, and Darnold was #3.

Fields at 11 is better than Zach Wilson and Trey Lance who were #2 and #3.

Hit rate is spotty everywhere. A little higher at #1 but only a little. Commanders want Caleb; get them to pay and you’ll end up ahead.

To be fair, everyone but the 49ers had Fields above Lance :dhd:

Im liking that streak myself......

If CWs floor is Judtins,then why not draft him.......saves money,but I like our chances.....

Im also kinda liking Maye......

Also keep Bagent......but not ss starter.

Keeping JF and he doesnt progress next season,wd get absolutley nothing for him,even may not get back into a top pick for a qb........Im back on the train to trade him.

Its gonna be a sad day for me,he is a very likable guy with no character issues,not an arrogant ass,loves being in Chicago and he may continue to progress......

But aftrr 3 years and we still need hope for him,hes most likely not the guy we want.......

I paid some attention last year - to @averagejoe's point, they're working without opposition.

Some guys fall apart when there's an NFL DE barreling down on them - and some guys get better.

I think it's a little more useful for evaluating RBs and WRs than for QBs.

It can be fun - but remember to temper excitement about beautiful 60-yard spirals to a WR with nobody else on the field.

It may show arm strength on how far downfield they can throw,how on target passes can be......
Compare that with Daniels and Maye......
Check out his hieight,seems to me some say they list him shorter thsn the 6-1 as advertised.....

I usually watch everything I can when it comes to certain players or positions who might be drafted by the Bears. I always watch the combines and also try to catch any pertinent pro days. Neither of these situations ever tells the whole story, but at least we're getting a bit more acquainted with them.
