We're at the halfway point of ST. There should be a round of MLB camp cuts coming soon.
Entering ST I 'd say the Reds wanted Desmond Jennings, Ryan Raburn, and Arismendy Alcantara to play well and make the team. None of them have performed well combining for an even .200 BA.
From the quotes I've heard from Bryan Price, if Bronson Arroyo is healthy, he's making the team.
The other two rotation jobs? I'm not sure who the favorites are in Price's mind. With limited games remaining we should see a pattern form as they build up innings/ pitch counts. It's getting late in camp to be having a wide open competition for the rotation. There's just not enough innings to go around.
Finny, Feldman and Stephenson probably. I'd guess Garrett for now. With Disco down and Homer out in left field, one wonders what Price sees as an acceptable April. Does this team go 6-16 over the first month? I have zero idea if Cody Reed can get anybody out.
Does Williams want to win this year? I think they might make the change but it would have to be really horrible. That sort of change is to appease the fans, who already don't have much faith in the process. I would like to see DeShields get a shot at it.
Anybody interested in a thread I started on the MLB forum ....?
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Cincinnati Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani is expected to begin the season on the disabled list because of a sprained right elbow.
Reds general manager Dick Williams said Monday that DeSclafani will be shut down for up to a month. An MRI done in Cincinnati revealed a sprained right ulnar collateral ligament.
I don't think anyone in Cincinnati is trying to win this year, and as long as Price is speaking the company line, and is as cheap as they can get, he's going nowhere..literally and figuratively. Not saying coaching can't make these guys better, but that won't make a difference in the standings, IMO, that takes talent the Reds don't have.
Great, they have about $17M left to pay 13 players. THERE's your clue what kind of players are making the rest of the roster. Maybe they'll sign half the Florence Freedom team.
