The other day I was wondering if the Bye week has any effect on super bowl winning teams. You would say no not really as the best teams win and the bye week doesn't effect that. I went back all the way to the Hawks super bowl winning season and only 3 teams had a Bye week Before 10 and those were Week 7, week 8 and week 9. The other 7 winners all had a bye week between weeks 10-13 with 3 having a week 11 bye, 1 with a week 12 bye, 2 week 10 and 1 with a week 13 bye. Teams having a week 6 bye or earlier have not won a superbowl since 2009 where the Saints had a week 5 bye. Week 6 in 2008, and the Steelers week 4 bye in 2005 that they "didn't" win with out the refs help. Since after 2009 no team with a bye earlier than week 7 have won. The sweet spot looks to be in that week 11 range ( 10-11-12 )

Past 13 SB winners and their bye week
KC week 8
LA week 11
TB week 13
KC week 11

I just wanted to bring this up and get your input, do you all believe that when you get your bye week can help you win a super bowl? Now I would say with the 17 game season i think the Bye week DOES effect it more than it did before. Sure this isn't the NFL from the 70-90 and it has turned into the patty cake league but the numbers show that a early bye can spell doom for a Super bowl season in the past decade.

Thoughts?

A bye is in he schedule before the season starts. Injuries happen after the season starts. So, they're really not coupled in time in any predictable way.

Just looking at it logically, getting a bye later in the season is going to let a team recover more than an early-season bye, because more players are beat up later than earlier.

So then you agree with what the stats seem to point out that a mid season Bye is better than a early season one.

Stats? Nah, logic is sufficient to explain it.

You do know the reason i posted this was to point out that having a later bye is much better than a earlier one, Why? Because of injry and health not just saying a earlier bye sucks because it just does. lol

Every team deals with injury over the course of a season and the Bye is a time to let the banged up get healthy but in week 5 their are less banged up than in week 10 so the week of the Bye does benefit teams when later and the past super bowl victors show this.

11 of the past 13 super bowl winning teams had a bye week 8 or later and 8 of those were week 10 or later.

Of those then, the real contenders are Chiefs, Eagles, Bills. The Ravens bye is good for them because Lamar will likely be hobbled by then. As to the point, I believe it has to be a benefit to have the bye just before Thanksgiving so teams can get recharged for the stretch run. However, it obviously will never be a sure thing. Some teams just have good luck and don't suffer too many injuries to key players.

I definitely think that having a later bye is more favorable just due to the fatigue/injuries of the regular season.

Logistically I don't know how it would work out, or if it's even feasible, but I think it would do a lot for player health if there was two bye weeks. If that stretches out the schedule, I don't think you'd see any fans complaining as long as we have football games to watch.
