Long should be a tackle, Garza should be a guard and BDLP should be the center. Sucks that Bushrod went down, and the should have prepped Long for tackle in camp, but it would be nice to see them take a chance at getting the highest ceiling result after this injury.

Mills-Garza-BDLP-Slauson-Long

From guard to guard we are solid. Mills is experienced and capable at rt and I'm not sure if we have anyone else on the roster who can play LT at a high level anyway behind Bushrod. May as well prep Long for his future gig.

I dont think Slausen wants to go back to the right side, it brings back the sanchez face in ass bad memories. Garza played the right side anyway.

I agree... when I wrote that it was from the defense's perspective (Mills at RT to Long at LT). When you think about how well Forte has run to the left with Bushrod's athleticism and size pulling on OLBs I could see Long giving us a similar edge. I would trust him at that spot a lot more than I would Ola. We know Garza can play RG (he has more experience there than he does at C) and we know everyone else is comfortable at those spots.

I know the Bears won't do this... its a pipe dream. But it would be nice to get your five best OL out there and start training Long to be the killer OT that he was born to be.

Nah... Ola or Britton at LT.
I don't think you should switch 2 or 3 positions to help 1. You're just creating more opportunities for confusion.

Long can move to LT when Bushrod is done. They are both doing a good job, let's keep it consistent.
If Bushrod is out for a long stretch- that's something to think about- but for one game. I don't think you need to do that.

It's already been stated by coaches that Slauson and Garza will go back to original spots when healthy.

Just sucks that BDLP is going back to the bench in this scenario and that we're playing someone else who shouldn't be starting at LT, one of the most important positions on the line. But I get it.

Not to be a cynic, but is it possible the injury in this case is really gamesmanship on Trestman's part?

Apparently the Panthers are in desperation mode getting DEs on the field.
Charles Johnson probable for Sunday | ProFootballTalk

If they were on the fence regarding playing Charles Johnson this week or giving him one more week to rest, would they be more prone to letting him rest if they expected Ola to be our LT instead of Bushrod?

Nevermind... Bushrod is ruled out:

Brad Biggs @BradBiggs · 18m 18 minutes ago
#Bears rule LT Jermon Bushrod out and my hunch is Michael Ola takes his place as Matt Slauson is probable.

Tribune is reporting, the injury isn't season ending, so time will tell.
