I'm buying a gift and can't decide which would be better. He's already a fan of Bushmills, so I know I won't go wrong choosing that one. It might also be fun to add something new to the cabinet, and the cask strength has been getting rave reviews.

Thoughts? Any other suggestions in the same general price point?

Red breast 12 is great....don't think I've had the bushmills 21. What's the price point difference?

Redbreast is one of my top choices. Lady who runs one of the top Irish pubs in Seattle turned me on to it a few years ago. Claimed of all the whiskey she stocked, it was her fav. I took one sip and my eyes rolled into the back of my head. Magic.

Bevmo has the Bushmills 21 for $120, which is a little pricier than some online places but a wash when you include shipping. The Redbreast is priced at $73 in the same store.

At $50 difference I'd go with the red breast. If your friend hasn't ever had it before you've introduced him To a great new option.

That's what I was thinking. Another idea was to come down on the Bushmills and maybe get the 10yr along with the Redbreast. I just didn't want to disappoint with getting something different, but I have yet to come across anyone who does NOT like Redbreast.

I found a place with better prices and decided to splurge and got him both plus a bottle of Teeling Small Batch Rum Cask Finish as a wildcard. I'll let y'all know how he likes them!

I manage an Irish pub, thus I have a LOT of Irish whisky in my collection (Blackbush, Powers 12, Jameson 12 and 18, Redbreast 12 and 15, Greenspot, etc.)

The Redbreast 12 goes into the crystal decanter.

By the time I figured out about Greenspot, it was too late to order it from across the pond. Next year perhaps. I'm not a whiskey drinker at all let alone specializing in Irish or any other kind, so this was a quick education for me.

Greenspot has been available in the states for almost a year now. Most larger liquor stores around here have it, and I'm sure the smaller ones could order it in without any problem. A good Irish whisky for people who also like scotch, IMO.

Now YELLOWspot...oh...great googly moogly. That thar is a whisky! I have a standing request from my Irish bartender to grab me a bottle when he makes his yearly trip home. But even then he usually has to call in a favor to get his hands on one, when he can even get it.

Something to keep in mind when we finally make it to visit Ireland. I was searching online for the Greenspot, but apparently not diligently enough. I'll save it for Christmas or next bday and maybe make a tradition of it.

He was pretty thrilled with the trio! So far he's had the Bushmills, which he says is a way smoother and mellower version, and the Teeling. It's sweeter that Bushmills with a more subtle whiskey flavor. Since he's a big rum fan, he doesn't mind the sweetness. The Redbreast is being saved for St. Patrick's since that's the end of "his" season (bday - StP's).
