Burish with a cheap shot on Tavares

I don't think it's a cheap shot...hit from behind, but not really a cheap shot. didn't elbow his head or anything, seemed more like they ran into each other. JMO though.

The thing is pix, JT didn't have the puck, wasn't even close to the puck, Burish saw a chance to hit somebody who didn't see it coming, and he decided to do it. That's bad enough, but JT has a concussion (2nd of his career) and he'll miss at least 6 weeks.

There was no penalty on the play, and I bet Burish isn't suspended.

Of course Burish won't be suspended. Former Rangers coach Colin Campbell makes those decisions. HE HATES THE ISLANDERS.

The season is now truly over. Even if the Islanders end up with the worst record in the league (which is a lock) they'll probably lose it in the lottery anyway. If it weren't for bad luck they wouldn't have any luck at all.

I'm trying to figure out how he got a concussion from that though...the angle that I see seems like more of a forearm to the ribs. Maybe I'm missing something...I dunno. Wish him the best, but he has to take his time coming back from that.

Yeah, I think you're right. Just wasn't from impact per say. Of course, after getting one, you're much much more likely to get another. That's why he has to watch himself. Can't rush back from these. It's just stupid to do so.

Yes....Burish is a little weasel asshole and Dallass sucks the high hard one, that's a given, but I don't see any malice here.

That's a great thing about a message board forum, isn't it Tox...A great way to bring fans together to discuss the game we love. I'm not looking for everybody to agree with my interpretation of the play, I just think it sucks that a young star player will miss action on something that easily could have been avoided (and let me state for the record, in my opinion, I think Burish saw Tavares and decided what the hell, I'll hit him). His track record weighs heavily in my thought process. I agree that there was probably not much malice there, but Tavares has suffered a previous concussion from a Jovanovksi elbow, and I fear that he's on the slippery slope where it won't take much to knock him out of action.

I think there's been more concussions than we know. Typically, a concussion, at the very least, SHOULD keep you out about 2 weeks. However, that gets bumped up significantly if it's the second in a year. If he's an over achiever, and a quick healer (the disparity from person to person is phenomenal), it could be kept to around 4-5 weeks. 6-8 is probably on target just because it's his second. I know what you mean about the mechanism of injury there...not much happening...but apparently enough.

I agree with tox. I don't think Burrish did a whole lot wrong there. If anything, the concussion came from the way he hit the ice and not from anything Burrish did.
