Not worst late innings down by one run.
Why would it 'make up for it?'
They're not mutually exclusive.
I don't need title adviceyou should have made the title sacrifice bunting then. Joe squeeze bunts as much as anyone, so it must raise his "bunting" numbers.
The only situation where a sac bunt doesn't drastically decrease your odds of scoring in an inning are if there 0 outs with a runner on 2nd or you are bringing them in from 3rd. If the runner is on 1st it is NEVER the right move to sacrifice. If there is an out it is NEVER the right move to sacrifice with a runner not on 3rd base.
The only time the Cubs should even consider a sacrifice is with the runner on 3rd representing the tie or win in the 9th inning. Outside of that rare situation there is no statistical justification for even considering it. The Cubs, as the lineup is currently constructed, are better off swinging.
Anthony Castrovince: Debate over sacrifice bunts continues
I was in the road. What was the situation? Was it one that called for bunting? If not, then that's not what I wAs talking about, right?why the fuck was Baez bunting on a day like today after hitting one in the seats? Hope you are happy for wanting the bunt game.
Bryant on first, no outs in the 10th. Rizzo doesn't bunt him over. Instead? Pops out.
Depends on who's up. Rizzo or Bryant aren't bunting in that situation, Russell or Coughlan yes they should be buntingBryant on first, no outs in the 10th. Rizzo doesn't bunt him over. Instead? Pops out.
Your outcome based logic is not a real logic. It probably has to do with Maddon's understanding of the game. You never bunt with your best hitter(s). You could argue Bryant trying to bunt with the bases loaded, one out and the winning run on 3rd, but then what do you do when Bryant pops the bunt up into a double play? You just killed a bases loaded situation instead of letting two of the best hitters in the game, Bryant and Rizzo, have their ABs.
Bunting is only the correct play when the runner on 3rd represents the winning run and there is a poor hitter at the plate. Outside of that rare situation it is an attempt to throw away the game. The Cubs are not looking to throw away games. They looking to win as many as possible. Just like they won this game because they didn't screw up and try to bunt with Bryant and Rizzo.
