One start off only delays the decision by 5 or 6 days. It also causes the team to go one man short either on the bench or in the pen.

I think they will find a way to trade Wandy for bullpen help if that decision presents itself eventually. Of course if Colby pitches poorly between then and now they might do what you suggest. Of course, all of that is based on my thinking Wandy will eventually come back down to earth as he has pitched much better than his career numbers. It doesn't happen often with guys his age, but he could have found a way to remake himself as a pitcher. Things might look a lot different 5 weeks from now.

I keep waiting for that to happen as well with Wandy but if it doesn't we need to keep him starting. He has experience and is showing he knows how to pitch.

Saw where Venditte or whatever his name is went on the DL because of his shoulder. Doesn't he still have one good shoulder to pitch with? :)

@Evan_P_Grant: #Rangers manager Jeff Banister: 6-man rotation a legit possibility if club has fully healthy staff: Rangers manager Jeff Banister: 6-man rotation a possibility when reinforcements arrive | | Dallas Morning News
He is a new manager and therefore he might be willing to try it, but I think he will discover the problems others have encountered when trying that. That usually doesn't work for very long and it could cause some guys who are used to pitching more often to lose some of their effectiveness. Offdays could cause some guys to have 7 or 8 days between starts.

What might need to be kept in mind is the fact that Wandy hasn't pitched more than 62 innings the last 2 seasons. I wonder if his effectiveness will suffer when he gets significantly above that. He is still fresh now, but I wonder how soon his 36 year old arm starts to wear down when he significantly exceeds the number of innings he has thrown the last couple of seasons.

Banny was mentioning in the postgame that the Rangers defense was 29th very early on in the season. A few weeks later they improved to 25 and then a few weeks later to 20th. I believe he said it was at 15th currently. He seemed impressed with the improvement.

I loved that he answered that reporter's question with numbers.

You may have a point there.

What stat is he basing it on?

He mentioned they had a team of analysts who track these things. He didn't go into detail past that.

Ok. We've committed the 2nd most errors in the AL. Fielding % is the 2nd worst as well. I'm not seeing the improvement with my eyes either, but I'm sure they've cherry picked the stats to back it up.

Unfortunately, it looks like Alfaro may miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

That's not good. Will pretty much eliminate the possibility of him starting next season with the big club.

In any metric I check that matters they are in the bottom 10 of the league. 21 in UZR, 23 in DRS, 22 overall defense. Only one I see in the middle of the pack is RngR.

I, laughingly, wondered the same thing.

Apparently, he has a more dominant side and that's the one ailing, is my guess.

This from Banister on the MM error:

“That ball was hit about as hard as you can,” manager Jeff Banister said “Maybe the farthest a ball was hit that I’ve ever seen called an error.”

My financial planning for my future is about as porous as the Rangers defense. Sure wish someone could show me how to cherry-pick how bright things really are.

I agree with ya completely.

Don't forget today's contest is a 3 PMer.

Colby didn't pitch at all in 2013, and only the first half of 2012 (105 innings)... and then was perfectly hoss like at the end of 2014

I understand where both of ya are coming from.

I always hesitate to compare one player to another in situations like this. Each person is unique in when/if they recover and abide by their own timeline.
