He should find out today if he'll have to spend some time in an Arizona pokey...
The Edmonton Oilers goaltender will have his driving under the influence and speeding case heard before a judge in Scottsdale Municipal Court in Arizona Friday afternoon.
Khabibulin was arrested on Feb. 8 near his suburban Phoenix home after being pulled over for speeding in a black Ferrari, says a police report. The officer allegedly smelled alcohol on the 37-year-old, who agreed to sobriety tests as well as a blood test. After the blood test, he was cited for an extreme DUI with a blood-alcohol content at .164, more than twice the legal limit in Arizona.
If he’s found guilty, Khabibulin could spend a minimum of 30 days in jail for the misdemeanour. The maximum sentence is six months. He could be sent to Tent City, the military camp in the Arizona desert where the convicted wear prison stripes. They have also been known to wear pink underwear under the watchful eye of hard-line sheriff Joe Arpaio, the legendary lawman who has been featured on the CBS News program 60 Minutes.
