Very clever of Selig to do an April Fool's prank on January 21...no one expects it

This has to be a joke, right?

It's a new award give by the Baseball Assistance Team. Selig has nothing to do with it. If you are going to name an award, you might as well name it after the first person you're giving it to. It sounds like one of those awards thet no one will ever hear of or care about....

The Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T.) was formed in 1986 by a group of former Major League Baseball players. B.A.T. was founded to confidentially help members of the Baseball Family who were in need of assistance with nowhere else to turn. In 1991, a one-time contribution was jointly made by Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association and the Gannett affiliated Freedom Foundation to establish an endowment for B.A.T. The charitable organization was not intended to take the place of a pension or to serve as one. The intention was to serve as a bridge to help people get back on their feet. The organization has changed slightly since 1986 but one thing has not changed: If a member of the Baseball Family is in need of medical, financial or psychological assistance B.A.T. will do all it can to help.

Selig lasted 22 years in the toughest job. (Only Kenesaw himself lasted longer.) That alone is deserving of something.

It's really not when your job is to be the owners' lackey, and you're incredibly adept at being a spineless lackey.

Bingo, Selig and any new commissioner will be a owners lap dog.
Any commissioner with teeth would have forced the Wilpons to sell the Mets after being neck deep in the Madoff ponzi scheme and penny pinching in the NY market for 4 years.
