i finally get to see polanco on WGN!!!!
they just announced the pirate D.
Most errors in the NL.
ALvarez has 17.
16 of them are throwing.
so fielding 3rd and making some nice and tough plays, he only has ONE fielding error. that has to be the lowest of all FT 3b in the majors.
Is he a steve sax syndrome, lack of concentration or just erratic.
he has a very strong arm from the occasional game i have seen.
we have pitching coaches, so someone should be able to work with this issue. If not, he would be an awesome 1B unless he can't throw the underhand toss.
It looks to me like he loses his release point when he takes something off his throws on routine plays, causing the ball to sail on him. He also overthrows some on the more challenging plays, but that's going to happen. I'm more concerned with the sailing balls on the routine plays.
It's probably all mental, hesitation or second guessing. When Walker comes back, Pedro may benefit from a few days off to sort it out.
Good inning for Morton, but we should have a run on the board.
I can't believe they decided Baker wasn't blocking the plate without the ball. He was very clearly all over the baseline before he caught it, since Ike slid right into him, and Baker never moved.
our catchers this year were supposed to be great on D and light on hitting.
instead, martin, sanchez, and stewart are
26 R, 8 2B, 5 HR, 36 RBI, 36 BB, 270 BA, 375 OBP, 730 OPS
over achieving.
on D, everybody steals, and martin hasn't figured out the blocking the plate rule yet.
sanchez can't throw anywhere.
