BSU Softball opens their 2019 season with an 8-0 win over Boston College

Despite a lightning warning interruption of more than 2 hours Boise State wins their first game of the 2019 season with an 8-0 shutout win over Boston College in five innings. Apparently unlike what occurred in the Boise State vs. Boston College game played in the football post-season, in December of 2018 in Dallas, Texas, the game was not cancelled.

The 2nd game of the day for Boise State vs. Northwestern State has now been delayed for more than 34 minutes due to a "torrential downpour" of rain. Lightning delays, rain delays, sounds like great weather down there in Austin, Texas, today. Oh and the temperature during the first game was 32 degrees too.

Boise State lost the 2nd game yesterday 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning. Boise State led the game until Northwestern State tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the 7th and then got a game winning single that ended the game. I hope the Boise State coach learned a lesson as she clearly SHOULD HAVE replaced the Boise State starting pitcher in the 7th inning. Gianna Mancha did a terrific job in very cold weather thru the first six innings but she clearly was not the same in the 7th inning. If they had replaced Mancha with Michaela Leal - as they did in the first game - they very likely would have won that 2nd game and would have gone 2-0 yesterday (rather than 1-1). Instead they lost 3-2 in a game where they had the lead for most of the game.

Because of the severe weather conditions in Austin, Texas, the 2nd game vs. Northwestern State that was originally scheduled for 9 a.m. today (Saturday) has been cancelled. Boise State is now scheduled to play only one game today vs. # 9 ranked Texas at 12 noon. The final game for Boise State at the Texas Classic is now scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday vs. Northwestern State. Boise State was originally scheduled to play a 2nd game against Northwestern State at 9 a.m. Saturday and then finish with a 2nd game against Boston College at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Boise State leaves the Texas Classic with a 2 -2 records with wins over Boston College and Northwestern State and losses to # 9 / # 16 ranked Texas and Northwestern State.

The Boise State pitching is solid but the hitting so far this season leaves a LOT to be desired. Last season Boise State was an offensive machine which led the entire nation in scoring. This season, after four games, the Boise State offense has an anemic batting average of only .205 and has scored only 12 runs in 4 games (3 runs/game average) with 8 of those runs coming in one game. And not trying to single out one player but CAL transfer Brady Fillmore has only 1 hit (a home run) in 9 at bats so far this season (.111 Batting Average so far).
