I saw this on the team boards and was worried for a minute. Forgot he's not ours any more. I don't know how their depth is, but koppen was a pretty good one, so losing him has to hurt.

From the Niners' board:

http://www.sportshoopla.com/forums/...p-teams-have-had-some-bad-luck-offseason.html

Niners: Crabtree. Might be back for the end of the regular season.

Ravens: Rolando McClain EDIT: Dennis Pitta ACL

Seagulls: Harvin injured & Bruce Irvin suspended

Broncos: Von Miller & the Dumervil fiasco (which ended up being good news for the Ravens). EDIT: Dan Koppen too.

Patriots: Gronk & Hernandez

I don't think Dennard's issues are going to affect football at all. League-wise, they can't punish a first offense that is a DUI, and I don't think the legal issues happen during the season.

Well, he's going to be suspended at some point.

He can't be. His only offense since being in the league is a DUI that may or may not stick, and for a first offense Goodell can't suspend for that under the personal conduct policy:

So it's contingent upon whether or not the DUI sticks?

I guess under the new CBA they can't include the pre-draft arrest in consideration?

It's not, but a first offense DUI is not something that the NFL can suspend for. It doesn't have anything to do with whether they can consider the first arrest, but they can't suspend for it because he was not subject to the personal conduct policy yet, and they can't suspend for this because it is a first offense DUI.

My interpretation of the situation may not be accurate, but I did attempt to research the issue as well as possible when it occurred, and this is what everything I found pointed toward. I have not seen an analysis specific to this situation by someone with more specific knowledge.

And yes, I think it's dumb that DUI is overlooked so easily. I actually agree with a lot of the sentiment of the article I linked. But my understanding is that this is not subject to suspension.

I think that's as much the case of the patriots preparing for everything as much as anything else. If you look at the actual globe article, it doesn't say anything about them thinking he will be suspended, just that they are prepared in the case that it happens.

Maybe goodell finds a way to use his pre-draft arrest combined with this to suspend him, but I don't think the player's union lets that slide.

Part of the player conduct policy states he can't though. I don't think he'd be able to get away with it.

I would say maybe Denver could lure Peyton's buddy Jeff Saturday out of retirement but I saw him ESPN the other day and the dude looks like he's on crack. He's lost a shitton of weight. I didn't even recognize him

They'll be OK. It will hurt a playoff run unless there's a chance he could get back, but they'll be there.

What a horrible offseason to be an ACL.

No doubt man, what's with the increase in ACL tears? Could this be HGH related? Some other substance that the league hasn't caught on to yet? Who knows?

Seems every team has lost someone to an ACL tear. My team has lost two: Melvin Ingram (big loss) and Jonas Mouton (worthless player).

Thought the same thing myself. Terrible loss either way. he really was going to help the protection for Manning
