While Elway hasn't been perfect draft wise (2nd and 3rd rounds don't look so pretty) his drafts haven't been as bad as some make them out to be. Good chunk of the team has been built through the draft and his drafted players have gotten huge contracts either by the Broncos or other teams.

Thankfully it was for every team in the league pretty much. Wouldn't shock me if 2013 goes down as one of the worst drafts in NFL history.

With Barrett injured and Ware gone... i suddenly feel somewhat naked at edge rusher. Von is a top 3 edge rusher in football, but Ray has never really done it for me. He is about as good of a secondary edge in the league, but he has a decent chunk of clean up sacks and still struggles against the run. It is due to this, I think I am starting to lean towards edge round 1 2018. Long season to go so we will see how the needs shift, but that is just how it look right now.

I think I read Ray had a very high rate of sacks as a percentage of snaps played. However - I wouldn't be surprised to see the Broncos go with an edge rusher early - though they have a couple of guys on the roster they claim to like - Vontarius Dora.

Shane Ray, to me, had a high rate of clean up sacks and isn't a great run defender. will need to get stronger this year in run defense (something they are harping on him this offseason). But edge just makes sense with how valuable they are and how you can never have enough.

I would say the cost alone makes them worth the position. The price is only going up and the top tier guys are getting $18-20 million already. Thankfully they have Ray for 3 more seasons but yes having that constant flow of guys that can get after the QB is a huge advantage. Our Super Bowl season that depth played a major part in us winning a Super Bowl. Looking like some good ones for this upcoming draft so definitely a position to keep an eye on.

its also a position that, unless you are a top 10 pick, takes a year or two to grow into. Getting a guy second half of round 1 (like we will) with ray having 2 years left on his deal offers Elway the flexibility and depth at the position he desires

Ray's play could improve tremendously if they have to start doubling Peko/Kerr or Gotsis. I'll be happy with the same Ray if either of them can compensate.

I honestly was a little burned out last year. After winning the Super Bowl it wasn't just the players that kind of let up a bit but for me I just wasn't into the season like ones before. This year though right back at it ready for a great season.

I just had a ridiculously busy summer and fall with a new job, so I rarely got time to watch. Things have settled in though, and short of a move to the beach this month I'm looking forward to weekends again.
