Dodgers To Re-Sign Brian Wilson: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

It's a one-year, $10MM deal with a second year player option. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports (on Twitter) that the option's value is $9MM, meaning that Wilson is guaranteed at least $19MM on this two-year pact. Jim Bowden of ESPN and MLB Network Radio tweets that Wilson has another $700K of incentives built into each year of the deal.

It would've been better if the 2nd year was a team option, but in this market, this signing almost looks like a bargain.

I like it.

I like it, too. Back end of the BP should be in good shape.

Are we fuzzy on the definition of "taking things too far"???

:laugh3:

Seriously, I like the signing, A LOT. Not the price tag so much, but,....., it's not my money, and, it's not like the Dodgers flinch at $ 10 mil anymore.

Times are good. :yahoo:

10 milion is peanuts to the Dodgers nowadays. And honestly, looking around at what other relief pitchers are getting, it's basically par for the course.

There are still some bullpen openings. Right now it's just Jansen, Withrow, Paco, and Wilson. There are internal options, but I'd assume that the Dodgers will sign one more guy (Crain? Axford?).

Internal guys to think about: Jose Dominguez jumps to the top of the list. As things stand now (unless he's still hurt), I would actually be surprised if he's not on the team right out of the gate.

I doubt the Dodgers will start the season with only one lefty in the 'pen.

Lefties who are on the 40-man to consider:
Scott Elbert - He's coming off of surgery. He's the most experienced (that I'm listing), but I don't know what to expect.
Onelki Garcia - Had a cup of coffee with the team this year (looked underwhelming to me, we'll see what he does with a better opportunity)
Jarrett Martin - Young kid who throws gas. Grew up a Dodger fan, acquired in one of my favorite trades ever (Dana Eveland to the Orioles - right before the Dodgers were about to non-tender Eveland. Free players!). I doubt Martin would make the club out of the gate, but I won't be surprised in the least to see him get a call up sometime in the season.

Then of course there's Billingsley and Beckett, members of the "what the heck are we going to do with you?" club. Unless Dodgers sign another starter (Tanaka pleeease!!!), I figure Beckett starts the season as the 5th starter. Bills is supposed to be on the mend until May/June, last I read.

Its a good signing for sure. We need another BP arm, starting pitcher and utility infielder. I would not mind signing Michael Young back.

If I had it my way the Dodgers would bring in Eric Chavez and Jeff Baker for the bench.
