He's not worth it and this contract is going to be an albatross.

Nah, they'll just do what everyone does when they're buried under a bad contract.

Trade him to the Yankees.

I disagree with you... He is one of the best young 1Bs... He had a very good season last year... I dont think it is going to be an albatross... was it an overpay?? yes... But i would rather overpay my young studs to keep them than to lose them... Plus it is only 15.6 mill per season... he is worth that, maybe even a little more... it is the 8 years that is a little much...

They are paying him to average 2.6 WAR a season. I don't have a hard time seeing him do that over the course of the contract given the age.

This makes KT look like a genius for extending Goldy to a five year $32 million deal.

Yeah, don't really get the flack over this.

If anything, a few years ago, you'd think Heyward would be getting the big extension and not Freeman.

Good signing; smart move by the Braves to lock him up for his prime years.

Yeah, even now that I have heard it is 135 (would be ~2.8 instead of 2.6) I see little reason not to assume Freeman simply isn't capable of doing that. If he he continues to have 4 war seasons going forward it will be worth a lot of money... for the Braves.

Yup. $135M isn't what it used to be.

$15 mil per year for all the prime years of Freeman? How is that a bad signing? Guy is 24 right now, so they have him locked up for his prime and hes a rising player.

So there is like a 100% chance the Fins trade Stanton now right? He's going to get a larger contract than Freeman and I just don't see them offering enough to keep him locked in.

Eventually I think they will. But he doesn't hit free agency until 2017 so they have some time to wait and find the best offer available.

For Stanton, it's a question of weighing his performance and years under team control to determine when he is the most value and therefore when the Marlins can get the most return. With 3 more seasons under team control, his value is very high right now, but if he is racking in the first half of this season or next they may be able to get more for him while he is still under team control for 1.5-2.5 years.

This deal makes Towers look like a genius. Goldy 5 years 32M. Dude needs to get a new agent.
