Giants | Not heavily interested in Jose Reyes

The San Francisco Giants do not appear to be heavily interested in signing free-agent SS Jose Reyes (Mets) and may choose to stick with SS Brandon Crawford at shortstop.

Good for B.C. He might just become more famous than his glove and his hair. :)

He has to know that if he can hit even .240 with 8 HR, that he can add another zero on to the right end of his salary and make that for 6-8 years minimum.

How could that not motivate someone?

Crawbaby has the potential to be a decent MLB OBP guy. He had a good bat in college and has had some limited success in the minors. He also seems to be a pretty bright kid who approaches the game in the right way.

Ad that to the glove and hair, and you have a star.

This.

Stamos, if left alone for a few years, could very well develop into a .280 guy with a .340ish OBP. With his speed, that kind of production would play very well in the 2 hole behind Brown. Or in the 8 hole if Panik develops as hoped.

2014 Giants?

CF Brown
2B Panik
C Posey
3B Panda
1B Belt
RF Nate
LF Peguero
SS Stamos

SP: Tim/Matt/Bum/Kamp/Crick
Bench: Susac, Adrianza, ToJo, Parker, Jones

So you seriously don't think we'd pick up the option on Zito?

Wow that's amazing. I remember weak grounders up the middle and popups all year long. I wouldn't expect anything near those numbers next season of course, but definitely something better than what we saw in 2011.

Honestly I'd be happy if he turned into a .250 8th slot with great D - but hey maybe I'm selling him short, I'd take a .280 #2!

If only the AZ fall league meant anything. Obviously it's better that he's raking than the opposite, but the reason you remember weak grounders and popups is the AFL ain't MLB.

I hope this kid gets a chance, just to see him play D. It's been too long since we've had someone who can pick it out there.

Just remember that while Crawfrod may be raking, he's raking against guys who are most likely headed for High-A and double-A ball next season. The trail to the majors is littered with guys who raked in the low minors.

So be encouraged by his progress, but do not use it as a barometer of Major League success in 2012.

Come on, Cam, it is too early in the off-season to be bringing the huge bucket of ice-cold water!

Except for the approximately 753 Giants farmhands who have fizzled in the majors after raking it in the minors over the past 2 decades I have no idea what you are talking about.

Crawdaddy for Mayor!

Hey goddamnit I just clicked that link and found this:

San Francisco Giants skipper Bruce Bochy said SP Barry Zito will fill the fifth spot in the rotation next year after the team traded SP Jonathan Sanchez to the Kansas City Royals.

Shit. Somehow I was hoping this wouldn't even be a possibility. A World Series winning rotation does not have Barry Zito in it in any capacity.
