Depending on really your definition of bowl attraction really is. Excluding the B1G the Pac 12 alumni spending money on any bowl town is more attentive than every other conference’s team combined but it’s not as attractive. Everyone wants Alabama in a high profiled bowl, but no one would trust an Alabama grad to landscape their yard.

Yes, Alabama doesn’t have the lofty academic status of Washington State...

That's an especially stupid statement coming from a Wazzu fan; but stupid is as stupid does.

According to the latest NCAA Academic Progress Ratings, Alabama is tied at 17th with Pittsburgh & Louisville with 984 points. Out of the Pac-12, only Washington, which is tied at #5 with Vanderbilt and Navy at 991, Utah (tied for 8th at 989), and Stanford (#15 with 986 points), are ranked ahead of the Crimson Tide.

Washington St. is way down at #91 with 960 points. The only SEC team ranked below them is LSU, tied with Fresno St. at 111 with a score of 951. But the Cougars aren't the worst team in the P-12, since Arizona is tied at #107 with 952 points, and UCLA's score of 948 ties for 114th place.

948 sounds like the average SEC SAT score.

AIR FORCE, ALABAMA, CLEMSON, LOUISVILLE, RICE & UTAH
TO RECEIVE 2019 AFCA ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Air Force Academy, University of Alabama, Clemson University, University of Louisville, Rice University and the University of Utah will share the American Football Coaches Association’s 2019 Academic Achievement Award, which is presented by the Touchdown Club of Memphis.

RELATED ARTICLE: Clemson’s Dabo Swinney & 22 College Football Players & Named to the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

All six schools recorded a perfect 1,000 for their single-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) for 2017-18. This is first honor for Air Force and Louisville, the second honor for Alabama, Clemson and Utah and the third honor for Rice. The award will be presented to the head coach at each institution during the Honors Luncheon on Monday, January 13, at the 2020 AFCA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

This is the second year that the NCAA’s single-year APR has been used to select a winner. The APR holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term.

RELATED ARTICLE: Jerry Brown To Receive AFCA’s 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award

The APR is calculated as follows:

Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible. A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate.

From 1981 to 2007, the award was presented based on a formula used by the College Football Association and the AFCA. From 2008 to 2017, the AFCA used the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rate to select a winner.

The Academic Achievement Award was established by the College Football Association in 1981. The award recognized the CFA-member Football Bowl Subdivision institution with the highest graduation rate among members of its football team. When the CFA disbanded in 1997, the AFCA stepped in to present the award.

The 4 most bowl attractive teams in the B10 are OSU, Iowa, Wisky and Nebraska. Period. 3 of those are bowl eligible yet your list only had 1 of them. Bad list is bad

948 sounds like the average SEC SAT score.

Heck, Wisconsin & Penn St. were tied with Central Michigan & Boise St. at the 33rd position with 979 points. But they don't have to worry about academic rating to get into a bowl game since they already have 7 wins on the season.

Go back & look again. I listed all 8 of the Big 10's bowl eligible teams (3 under bowl attractive, 5 on the list of other bowl qualifiers). Call me back when Iowa & Wisconsin get to 8 wins.

Wins dont have anything to do with how attractive a team is to a bowl buddy. Fans who travel and spend is what a bowl cares about

Most everybody knows that it takes six wins to become bowl eligible in the FBS, except under the following circumstances:

a) a team that plays 13 regular season games must win 7 games to qualify;
b) a team that plays two FCS teams can only count one win over an FCS team to qualify, so either that team needs to win 7 games, or lose to one of the FCS teams & still win at least 6 games (which is kind of weird);
c) in rare cases when not enough teams become bowl eligible under the normal rules, the NCAA will allow 5-win teams to play in a bowl game, but those teams only qualify under certain academic metrics.

So, simple bowl eligibility isn't that big of a deal. However, becoming bowl attractive is a big deal. Teams with 8 or more wins over a 12-game schedule are much more attractive to bowl games than teams with only 6 or 7 wins.

Below, I will list the Bowl Attractive teams by conference; followed by total Bowl Eligible teams by conference (the second totals will infer the inclusion of the BA teams, but won't list them a second time).

* tie-breakers between conferences were decided on overall wins by the teams represented

^ for groups that didn't qualify for a category, the group with the fewest teams got the higher listing.

You left out one rule for bowl eligibility.

A team must beat 5 FBS opponents of their 6 wins. That is included because just playing two 1-AA's doesn't force
a team to win 7 total games. If they play two 1-AA's and lose to one, they can still be bowl eligible if they
win the other and also beat 5 FBS teams. That happened to Pitt a few years back. They had 2 1-AA's on their
schedule and lost to Youngstown State giving them 6 wins, but they had 5 wins vs FBS opponents so they were
bowl eligible.

They may be attractive from a monetary standpoint, but not to a great deal of viewers who want to see good teams matched up in bowl games.

A 6 win Nebraska team is going to draw more viewers than an 11 win Memphis team...they might draw a lower percentage of all Nebraska fans, but 30% of all Nebraska fans is greater than 100% of all Memphis fans.

We're #111! We're #111! We're #111!

That's like three times better than just plain old #1

Yep. NolePride isn't a very observant reader.

Funny how that correlates with FSU beaing dead last in APR, huh?
