Kids choose their school because of their relationship with the position coach who recruited them.

Carrier is ‘The Man’, who has put kids into the NFL.

East Coast kids have a future of glory to look forward to.

Depends on who Brown hires. He and his staff will have to recruit these kids all over again.

Many of the recruits were pushing for Gibby to be named HC too. A lot of the defensive players said they’ll have to wait until they meet the HC to determine their future.
Not saying your wrong. But kids trying to find programs looking to fill spots I would imagine are few and far between. Probably the upside of the early signing period.

I'd say that was likely. Shane "balls aplenty " Lyons got his guy, kept Gibson on staff, got a better coach for less money and Holgorsen is paying $1 million to boot. Works out well for everyone.
How do you know he’s a better coach? Because he’s not Dana? Why a 6 year contract? What if doesn’t bring in a Conference Championship in 4? I guess 2 extra years are warranted.

I don’t see any reason for Brown to keep someone like Gibby on staff. Like None.

Gibby is a below average DC. If Brown wants to keep his job at WVU, he needs to win more than 7 games/yr. That is the standard he’ll be held to by everyone.
I thought it was 9 per year and a Conference Championship in 4 or was that the standard by some on this board.

Brown is on the clock.

I do not know it, but most "coach ranking" lists have him well higher than Holgorsen on the list. I am not on the championship or bust by a certain date train. I want to see progress, which to me means win the games you should, compete in EVERY game, stop the blowout losses that have been too common the past few years, beat Oklahoma once to start with, then trade wins with them. NEVER lose to Kansas again, win some bowl games, represent the University well. Shane "balls aplenty" Lyons will keep his eye on the situation and measure success or failure and has made it clear that sub par performance will not be rwarded, that WVU doesn't pass out participation trophies!!!

Why trade wins with OU or anybody else? YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!! Did OU get the memo that they were supposed to beat us the first game and then we’ll trade every other game? If so, they’ve been cheating us.
You seem to hire/fire a coach on a whim. Whether it’s because the guy was drunk at a casino, or drinks Red Bull, or if the HC was hired by the best AD at WVU in my lifetime (who you hated), etc. And you have the nerve to call Will Grier a gun slinger.

A whim???? Guy was here 8 years....was a slightly better coach than 5 years ago, but we saw what he had, he had reached his ceiling. Grier IS a gunslinger, he was brought in to one.

So far, we're losing one kid, and he was already on the team: McLaughlin said he was going to transfer.

That would make two, Logan Hogersen left before it was announced that Dana took the Houston job, and is going to enroll early at Houston.

The more I read about our new coach, the more I am excited, a proven winner, a guy who turned Troy around, an experienced HC, it is a good day to be a Mountie!!

You wanted Dana out the minute King Ollie announced that Dana was replacing Stewart after 3 years. I was in Stewart’s camp until he contacted the Post Gazette in an effort to discredit Dana. Did he reach his ceiling or should have he gotten rid of the DC?

I felt, and still do that Luck did Stewart dirty. I think Stewart should have replaced his OC prior to 2010, I do not know what conversations Luck and Stewart had, nor does anyone on here. I wonder what some of those talks were? I think Stewart had reached his ceiling, but I loved that WVU competed in every game but one during his tenure, I like defensive football, and WVU played excellent defense those years. I also was pissed that Stewart tried to get the reporter to dig, but isn't that America of the late 20th century and beyond?????? While I supported Stewart, I do not think he should have been hired as HC, just think where we would be today if Garrison and Manchin had kept their mouths shut when Pastilong was in talks with Fisher!!!!!

Please for the love of god someone tell me what has Gibby done to deserve staying.....Did anyone watch the last three games?

Last three years our scoring defense was ranked '18 #67 '17 #90 '16 #35

So sick of this"well he is from WV" crap....Saban staff sure as hell isn't built from guys who are from Bama.

Only thing I can figure is that his contract goes through next year, so are they figuring they just as well get something out of him since they have to pay him anyway?????

I don’t think Gibby is going to be on staff.

Like DAD said though... he is under contract thru ‘19. If he gets a job somewhere else, WVU would still owe him the difference if his new salary didn’t match or exceed his current one.

I give credit to Shane. From everything I see this looks like a good hire made efficiently for his guy. This is the move that will define Shane as AD.
The change was made skillfully. This was Dana’s year. Dana knew it and structured his contract to drop his buyout just in time for him to shop himself after a great season. If he wins three more, top 6 maybe playoff and he writes his ticket st a big school. Does not happen and Shane does not pay him more. Houston takes him off our hands and pays us. Shane got rid of the guy he never liked with no buyout and has his guy.

As for Gibby, he is loyal has relationships with players is a great recruiter and would be great to have on the new coaching staff. BUT NOT DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR that decision should be up to our new HC.

Dana structured his contract to help him leave WVU after this season?

Almost every coach's contract has guaranteed income decrease as it reaches its end. Every contract has the coach's buyout of his contract decrease at it reaches it's end.

Dana would not sign an extension offered to him in '15 because it provided him almost zero improvement in salary nor guaranteed salary.

Luck's contract which included guaranteed income thoughout... something that was done by multiple AD's at the time... only had a $2 million dollar buyout if Dana chose to leave... no matter when Dana would choose to leave. This did not protect WVU's interests.

Dana wanted to secure an extension this year. His current contract went through '21. As we know, almost every HC has a contract with at least 5 years on it. Lyons just offered Neal Brown a 6 year contract.

I would rather you understand what Dana was trying to do, than for you to go on believing as you do.

Why would a coach who's been as successful as Dana want to continue to work on an old contract when his peer group is not doing so? If WVU believed in him, they would have extended him with a sweet contract.

Shane offered him a contract that was anything but sweet. It sent the message... and, Dana read it correctly. Instead of making this an ugly exit, he simply exited.

You could see how much WVU meant to him at his UH presser. He got choked up reflecting on WV and his time there.

I think that Lyons was OK with what was going on in football, but not excited about it. He offered what he thought was right for WVU, Holgorsen countered with what he felt was best for him, common ground couldn't be reached. No fault, no blame, two parties looking at their interest couldn't get a deal done, so Holgorsen went down the road. No different that me going into a car dealer and being unable to do a deal, so go to the next car lot and deal. I think it works out best for everyone, there are no burnt bridges, no hurt feelings, a business deal was done.
