LAK adamant on 2 things with Doughty: deal needs to be at least 7 years long and cannot be more than $6.8M, same salary as Kopitar.

Nothing official just yet, but John Tavares and Tyler Myers on verge of big, multi-year contract extensions with NYI and BUF, respectively.
Both deals are expected to be in 6 year range, give or take a year, and worth an average of $5.5M, give or take a few hundred thousand.
As I said, not "done" yet but close to being put to bed. Both Tavares and Myers have one year left remaining on their entry-level deals.

That would be acceptable, though I think I'd like to wait another half season or so before nailing him down for that much.

Myers was obviously amazing his rookie year, but had a lot of stumbles last year. Was it just a sophomore slump or was his rookie year better than he really is? I think it was just a sophomore slump, but I'd like to see a few games under his belt this year before making him the 3rd highest paid Sabre next year.

Problem is that the going rate keeps going up. Again.

I dunno about this. I love the Myers I saw 2 years ago, and I like the Myers from last year, but how do you justify paying him $5.5 million per for 5-6 years when you just locked up Ehrhoff for $4 million.

Granted there was some cap trickery in that contract, but Ehrhoff had 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points 2 years ago and 14 goals and 36 assists for 50 points last year, while Myers had 11 goals and 37 assists for 48 points 2 years ago and 10 goals and 27 asssists for 37 points last year. Ehrhoff has been more consistent and continues to improve and at his age has proven what he is capable of. Myers dropped back and is still young and his future is uncertain.

I can see offering around $4.5 million for 3-5 years, but I don't feel comfortable yet locking him up for 5-6 years for $5-6 million. But only time will tell.

Either way, the Sabres are in a good position cap wise next year to resign all the key components and maybe give Adams and Kassian a look at the pros.
