Dreger: Flames remain committed to staying the course

some excerpts that would drive any fan crazy when you see your team spiraling.

- Exasperated by his star forwards, Sutter employed an old school, junior hockey technique to get his players to compete. (NOTE: Nothing like embarrassing your veteran forwards to get them going)

- One NHL coach sees last night as a "tipping point," and doesn't believe the Flames players will respond, adding "the coach loses every time." (Note: Wonder who said that? AV? I doubt it)

- Brent Sutter is going to coach on his own terms (Note: He needs to change his style a little before its too late.)

- Based on Wednesday's example, Sutter is prepared to bring out the heavy artillery. At the beginning of the season Flames management placed the onus on the players, specifically Calgary's leaders to guide this group back to the postseason. As of Wednesday afternoon, that resolve hasn't changed.

New blood is required, plain and simple, Keenan (hired by Darryl Sutter) was a waste of two years and trading away draft picks in order to try to get into the playoffs only to go out in the first riound has been a disaster.

Darryl Sutter started out very well in Calgary, but moves made especially last season screamed out desperate GM trying to save his job. It's time for a change.

Down 5-2 in the third, Sutter, fuming over his team's unwillingness to work, sent out five defenceman to manage the final 30 seconds of a Calgary, third- period powerplay.

wow. slap in the face.

What's the old saying? It's a lot easier to fire a coach than 20 players. Regardless, changes need to be made (trades, firings or both) but changes need to be made. Maybe they'll wait until the trade deadline, but it doesn't really matter, the Flames aren't making the playoffs this year in any event.
