Sit down folks, this is a big one...
The Atlanta Thrashers have traded forward Todd White to the New York Rangers in exchange for forwards Patrick Rissmiller and Donald Brashear.
White, 35, scored seven goals and 19 assists in 65 games with Atlanta last season. He will be joining his sixth NHL club, having also played for Chicago, Philadelphia, Ottawa, Minnesota, and the Thrashers. White is due to earn $2.6 million next season, with a cap hit of $2.375 million.
Rissmiller, 31, played the majority of last season with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL, where he scored 20 goals and 27 assists in 69 games. In each of 2006-07 and 2007-08, Rissmiller played 79 games with the San Jose Sharks. He signed with the Rangers as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2008, but was unable to gain a consistent spot in the Rangers' lineup and played the majority of the last two seasons in the AHL.
Rissmiller is due to earn $1 million in 2010-11.
Brashear, 38, had one assist and 73 penalty minutes in 36 games with New York last year. He was sent to Hartford (AHL) for the last 27 games of the season. Brashear is a veteran of 1,025 NHL games with five NHL teams (Montreal, Vancouver, Philadelphia, Washington and the Rangers).
Several reports indicate that the Thrashers plan to buy out Brashear's $1.4 million contract once he clears waivers.
