Are you guys fan of advanced metrics? According to WAR we're only losing 2.3WAR with losing Hamilton, Young, and Napoli. Young was -2.4 last year so just trading him will be an upgrade. All our young guys have to do it put up a positive WAR and we'll be better off than we were last year. I believe that Profar, Olt, and Martin can account for a 3-4 WAR as rookies.
We are building this the right way. There's no need to waste money on guys who we don't think are going to pan out in the long haul. Yes I wanted Greinke but not for the money it was going to cost. Yes I wanted Hamilton but not for 5yr 125mil! We will be better over the longhaul and will have more options for improvement because we didnt blow all of our cash on guys who will not be worth their contracts at the end of them.
Preaching to the choir
While I don't think Young would've put up an equally bad season this year, I do think his departure clears up some of the logjam for the younger players to actually get on the field more, so yes addition by subtraction
I think getting Gentry and Martin on the field more will make up somewhat for the loss of Hamilton
And if Soto can play anywhere his actual talent level, he's a bargain at 3 million, guy was never right physically last year I don't think, and hopefully he can makeup somewhat for the loss of Napoli with better defense
Olt and Moreland playing everyday will also hopefully make up for the loss of hamilton as well
Also I'm expecting a bit of a bounceback for Kinsler and Cruz
