There used to be a real authentic pit bbq place in Long Island City, called Pearsons. The area was very industrial for years, but then hippies started moving into the neighborhood and complained about the smoke. Shut it down. They moved to Jackson Heights, but no longer could do the pit and the resulting product suffered as a result.

When I lived in the city in '93 and '94 there was a place called Dallas BBQ. Very touristy but a nice get-away every now and then in Manhattan for a kid from the South.

When I lived in the city in '93 and '94 there was a place called Dallas BBQ. Very touristy but a nice get-away every now and then in Manhattan for a kid from the South.

They're still here. Has about 4 or 5 locations now. It's not bad, seeing as how it was started by a transplant from the Middle East.

I'm not kidding. We actually know the owners. Good people.

The best part about them, is their 24-oz bevs.

Virgils on West 44th is about the best place left in the City.
