It's more: the neighbors complain, you tell them to go suck a lemon, they call 311 and/or 911, and then the police/fire department are showing up, and then they're writing your ass a ticket for wasting their time coming out to a non-fire.

There used to be a real authentic pit bbq place in Long Island City, called Pearsons. The area was very industrial for years, but then hippies started moving into the neighborhood and complained about the smoke. Shut it down. They moved to Jackson Heights, but no longer could do the pit and the resulting product suffered as a result.
