Anybody still believe Bo issued blackshirts out of the goodness of his heart, and that it was because the defense had actually earned them in fall practice?

I believe more than ever now that pressure came down from above to restore the tradition, as what he was doing wasn't working anyway. It also would explain his over-all change in demeanor when addressing the media.

I'm actually curious if the change in blackshirt policy didn't come from above and had nothing to do with Bo 'growing' as a coach. It's no mystery the issue of the blackshirts only being awarded 'as a unit' has been a source of critique on this board and others. At one point I posted that if I were AD I'd order Bo to either restore the traditional policy or hit the fucking road, because what he's been doing the last few years obviously wasn't working. Even Suh didn't get a blackshirt until the rest of the unit did halfway into the season.

I wonder if some boosters didn't put some pressure on Eichorst?

Bo also changed policy on appointing team captains.

ie...Is it Bo's idea or is he doing it begrudgingly? Money talks.

Well said. There's a bit of a contradiction there.

I guess it's not 100% clear now if Bo pulled them or the players did it voluntarily a la 2007. It's just known that the players weren't wearing them when they left the practice field yesterday. It should be clearer after interviews today.
