27 years old, 6'2, 223lbs left-shooting LW
1.1M, under contract for three more years.

/It's too bad Torts isn't around any more for Hartley to troll with a starting lineup of Bollig, McGrattan, and Westgarth.

Brandon Bollig actually has some skill too, which will make their 4th line better

The guy played all 82 games for the Hawks last season, I agree, he's more than just a 4th line plug. Canucks used a 3rd round pick to get Dorsett, Flames use a 3rd round pick to get Bollig, in my opinion, Bollig > Dorsett.

yep, but only thing is that Willie thinks he will get more out of Dorsett for the history. I guess that can come into play when selecting certain players :noidea:

So basically Bowman made a mistake signing Bollig and then turned it into a positive within what, about 4 months? That's why the Hawks are contenders.

Bollig is probably better than Dorsett, but both are bad moves.

Bollig has never topped 15 goals/31 points at any level, and that happened 7 years ago in the USHL. He's only got 13 goals and 11 assists in 146 career AHL games. And he's already 27 years old. He's absolutely nothing more than a 4th line plug.

Well, I'll respectively disagree that it is a "bad" move, I don't know how many 3rd round picks suit up for all 82 games and average over 10:00 minutes of ice time a night on a Stanley Cup contending team. The money that is being paid Bollig is just over a million for three years, so it's not as if it is a huge committment financially either.

Brandon Bollig is a head scratcher. He has a wicked wrister, problem is, he lets it go from the blue line or behind on rushes when his line mates are changing and the puck should just be dumped in.

He reminded me alot of Carcillo. Carcillo was a pain in the ass enforcer, he knew his role, but got to chicago and decided to be a finesse player. Bollig talks alot, has not done well in fights, and basically needs to decide what he wants to become.

As a fan of the hawk system, I hope this clears a spot for Morin who resigned yesterday.

He was also the only player on the 4 teams in the Conference finals who averaged less than 7 minutes per game in the playoffs. Let's not pretend the Hawks were throwing him over the boards in crucial situations.

There's plenty of time/opportunity to add 4th line plugs cheap once you have other pieces in place, you don't have to give up 3rd round picks to get them at the very start of your rebuild. Bollig himself went undrafted, if you think you really need that type of player go out there and find the next Bollig rather than giving up a 3rd to get this (more expensive) one. But it's a classic Burke move.

Looking just at the Blackhawks roster I count 8 players drafted in the 3rd round or lower that outscored Bollig last year.

Hey, I'm not doing a Steve Simmons ranting crazily about Dave Bolland here, but I don't hate the trade either. I'm just saying it's not a bad move, it's more of a meh move.

Here's something to chew on from extraskater:

I think we'll both agree that points are not the be-all end-all when determining how valuable a player is to a particular team.
