It's completely ridiculous that they backed off. Several B1G teams had already rearranged their schedules to accommodate this. Classless move by the Pac 12.
This sucks. Always thought this was kind of a cool thing about the Big Ten. That relationship with the west coast schools.
Guess we can thank their money grab with the 9 game conference slate? But then again, the B1G has already said they're going there too. Don't see how you really blame anyone on this.
It's every swinging dick grabbing for all the money they can get. Not just the PAC.
This was a dumb idea from the beginning. The Pac 12 already plays 9 conference games. The Big 10 will probably be doing the same in the future. That only leaves 3 non con games. 1 goes to the PAC/BIG alliance. Then you have 2 left that will probably be dog games. It is much better to have that 1 big non con game be spread out all over the place. Like next year it is UCLA, then Miami, then Tennessee. Spread these big games around the country. Look at USC, Stanford, Michigan, Michigan St, and Purdue. They would play 9 conference games, Notre Dame, a PAC/BIG alliance game, and then would only have 1 non con game left. If you are those teams, why would you want to do that? I know I want the competition but you have to look at it realistically. Plus what about the possibility of a rematch between 2 teams in the Rose Bowl that played earlier that year. We all know how much that sucks!!!!
Another thing is, why do we as the Big 10 want to go play games against teams in places that no one watches their games because they are usually on so late. We already live with the Pac 12 we don't have to marry them.
Even if we don't go to 9 games like has been talked about for the future of the Big 10. Why would the Pac 12 do this for the reasons I stated? Even if we stay at 8 conference games, why lock ourselves into the west coast? We already do that with the Rose Bowl.
If the Pac12 won't play us, we should extend the partnership with the ACC. We already have the Challenge in basketball. It would give us more exposure on the East Coast. It would give another major conference opponent. And, more often then not, the B1G would clean up. Then again, Indiana/Duke football isn't too exciting so maybe not.
