ESPN reports Mark Sanchez had surgery on his thumb Saturday. It was his non-throwing hand injured while working out in the team weight room. He's not expected to miss any significant time.
You make the call, was this a positive or a negative sigh for Denver fans?

So did a weight land on it or something? That seems like a silly way to need surgery or it's a really bad cover story.

He was doing curls, an OLman got too close, the weight Sanchez was using touched the butt of the lineman and Sanchez dropped the weight, as he tried to catch the weight he fell and hurt his thumb, from this point on this will be refereed as Butt Fumble Part Deux.

Was it the thumb on his buttfumble hand? If so it could be a problem.

Positive. Lynch is still unproven at this point but probably should be their #1 by the end of the season.

So a surgery that will keep him out of about 3 practices is something big this time of year? If this is something that would keep him out for a month I would be more understanding but we are talking a very minor procedure that they expect him to be back within the week. Yes it gives a small window for the rookie to make an impression getting a bit more time with the 1's but this is May when nobody is playing with pads (except Baltimore) and I don't think the offense can even go against the defense so they are throwing against air.

Which is difficult enough for Sanchez.

At this point I'm going to hold off judgment on Sanchez. He has had some shining moments like his play in the playoffs has actually been pretty darn good. He also has done a great job since getting to Denver of showing his teammates and coaches how much he wants this starting job. He has also done a great job of reaching out to the Denver community when he is not watching film or at practice. So again at this point don't have anything bad to say about what he is doing. He is trying to better himself and just have to see if that happens. I'm still hoping the rookie takes the job from him as I would rather have the more athletic player on the field and get the rookie some actual game experience but if Sanchez wins the job I will be interested to see how he does in an actual game.

And then you'll immediately want to play the rookie.

I just don't understand why Fitzpatrick isn't a Bronco right now. Seems to me like the perfect move for both parties.

He is still wanting more than $15 million a year. Right now after signing the rookies the Broncos have something like $2 million in cap space. So that should show why. Now given the Broncos did write into DT's contract that they can turn this year's base salary into signing bonus to free up another $10 million or so in cap space but then again that pushes money to other years so no reason to do that. I would also point out that with Fitzpatrick his only success as a QB in this league has been when Chan Gailey has been his coordinator. Otherwise he has been a terrible QB. So really the Jets are his best fit still with the team around him and the offensive system that fits his game well.
