I'm looking to get a modern style system, my son is 8, the other son is 7 and isn't interested in gaming yet.
maybe around October or December, so I have time.

probably going to start off with madden, also, the kinect technology would be nice feature.

what systems should I be looking at?
also I noticed that some bundles are like 500$ or so, hell no to that.

By "modern"... are you referring to the new PS4's and Xbox One's?
Or "older" technology in Xbox 360 & PS3?

The 360 and PS3 will be gradually phased out over the next year or so... so if you want to be able to buy "new" games in a handful of years, I would suggest the One or PS4. (my preference is the Xbox One).

But for a first system, you cant go wrong with the 360 or PS3. (again, 360 would be my choice)

I might go 360, since they are rather affordable, (craigslist seems to be full of them) and see what the next cycle of systems after that.

I agree with this for the most part, except I'm partial to the Sony systems. If you're going to make the investment, I'd think going with the newer systems would be the way to go as they'll stop making PS3 and 360 games soon (granted, there are a ton of great games for both systems).
