I'm probably going to get a lot of flak for this but probably Terry Kath of Chicago deserves some loving. I mean his work on the early Chicago albums (before they sold their souls to the ballads) is probably some of the best guitar work that he ever did. I mean Hendrix himself told either their manager or Walt Parazeider (Chicago's woodwinds player) that he was better than Hendrix.

I'd also be totally remiss if I didn't mention....

Steve Marriott
Marc Bolan
George Harrison
Mick Taylor
Joe Walsh

You mentioned ALL of those guitarists and not one mention of Warren Haynes? Unless I missed it(which is possible lol)...I've seen most of those guys you've listed live and I've NEVER seen a guy play like Warren Haynes...

Warren Haynes was actually mentioned earlier on. I'm just sort of reviving this old thread so re-mentions are no problemo.

When I was a kid in the 80's I never understood what it was people liked about him(of course I had NEVER heard his music, just based it on his weird name lol) But yeah once I actually heard his stuff, he is an amazing guitarist...

Yngwie Malmsteen is the correct answer but from the list SRV, Jimi, Randy and Clapton are easily the best. Ry Cooder should be listed.

there are some really good classical guitarists out there that no one has heard of that can play the shit out of a guitar. You tube some if you every get bored.

I've played guitar for many years and a lot of the electric/hard rock stuff is easy compared to some of the classical guitar fingerpicking. I actually hardly ever pick up my electric guitar anymore because I love the challenge
