I have a feeling this may actually be the pick. His stock is really taking off and the Bengals appear to like him as they went to his campus to work him out.

exerpt The Cincinnati Bengals are one of five teams who have scheduled a visit with Florida offensive tackle D.J. Humphries, according to ESPN reports. The other teams include the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the San Diego Chargers.

Humphries benefited from an impressive workout at the NFL Scouting Combine last month, watching his stock improve across most mock drafts. For example, Mel Kiper Jr. didn't have Humphries going in the first round during his first two mock drafts, but now, has him going to Carolina at No. 25.

Humphries is a guy who rose on my board after I saw him play well against some of the top pass-rushers in the SEC. He lacks polish, but he plays mean, keeps a wide base that makes him tough to get around, and the physical traits are there for him to potentially stick at left tackle.

Mike Mayock lists Humphries as one of his top-five offensive tackles. Per his NFL.com draft page:

An elite-level tackle when he exited the high school ranks, Humphries relies on his superior athleticism and fist-fight mentality rather than an improved skill set and steady technique. He might always have an issue with being a leaner, but his hand placement should improve with more work and coaching. When he improves in that area, he could become a solid NFL starter on the left side.

Well, athleticism, size, strength are all there. Technique could improve quickly with Alexander coaching him up.

Wasted pick. I see no way he beats out the immortal Tanner Hawkinson.

He reminds me of Levi Jones. People criticized his selection and it turns out the Bengals had the last laugh as he was one of the best LT's in the League until his injury.

I'm all for a tackle.... Been saying it all offseason.

I also liked the Levi Jones and Andrew Whitworth picks.

The Whit pick was hilarious -- Good times on the old ESPN board. Lots of tears shed that day.

OT is a bad pick in the 1st. Still way to many other needs.

We have two tackles with expiring contracts. One is moving into the back end of his career. It is not a bad pick.

Don't pay this fool any attention, he's just arguing to argue. Anyone with an once of common sense knows that with both starting tackles heading into free agency plus with one on the wrong side of 30 and the other coming off a major injury that the position is one of need.

it's a good pick if your the Bengals and you have no other way of getting a decent player on your team other than the draft.

OT is a good pick if the player on the board is the best graded player available. There are a lot of guys coming to the end of their contracts, and some guys on shorter deals. If a DT falls, I could totally see them going DT. Same with CB or safety.

Thankfully with OT, there seems to be some decent depth, so straying away from OT in round 1 isn't a killer if they think they can get a comparable guy in the 2nd round.

I agree. I don't want to reach for one, but if one is available and they have a high grade you have to take them.

This team has several needs. We aren't addressing QB. But just about every other position could stand to upgrade except RB. Best player available seems to be the right call.

I'll say this again. We will not be drafting an immediate starter in the 1st round. It doesn't matter who it is. He will NOT play this year. Marvin has basically said so himself already. That being the case, why not draft an OT if one falls? He won't play or start regardless. But you can never have too many lineman.

As its been pointed out, both of our starting tackles are headed to FA next year. One of whom is an injury prone bum, and the other is on the back 9 of his career. Why shouldn't the Bengals draft a T in the 1st round? I don't see the argument.

The reality is, where is a rooking going to start for this team? That's not really a bad thing, right? (Yes, QB, we all know...we also know it's not happening...) But this team is pretty well set with starters. The team overall is not bad at all, if they could get even competent QB play.

OL? Nope.
WR? Nope.
RB? Nope
TE This is the only position that would really be open on offense (again, QB....ugh)

DL Nope
LB Not likely, but probably the most open spot for defense if a big time guy fell to 21
CB Nope
S Nope

So, chances are, out of all the positions on the field, whoever is drafted is going to sit no matter what. Might as well make sure it's the best player available and then adjust your board as you move on. There's still a whole other F/A period (Yes, I laughed out loud when I typed that) and another draft to help fill holes for next year, plus contract signings will happen (Guys like AJ, Zietler, and Iloka are bound to get contracts), even if (when) other guys are allowed to walk.

WR and TE can be starters next year. As far as I am concerned Jones and Eifert are question marks until they can prove they can stay healthy. I'd have no complaints if they ended up picking one of those positions high.

Personally I'd love to see them take a flyer on Dorial Green-Beckham at 21. May not be the YAC guy we need but the guy is a rare talent.
