sometimes that's all it takes. Yeah, it would be nice to see 300 yards passing and 3 TD's, 0 INT, etc...but in tough games, when you need that one play, good players make a play.

I mean, we're talking about a guy who improved in every category last year from his rookie year. I see no reason why he won't continue to improve.

You mean aside from the fact that he's a limp-wristed ginger?

His numbers across the board did improve, but he had the same problems he had as a rookie. He still has a tendency to hold onto the ball too long, taking unnecessary sacks. He still has trouble going through his progressions, tending to lock onto his first read. He has success when he gets rid of the ball quickly, and that simply means his first read was open. He panics under pressure. His passer rating is something like 40 when under pressure, where for example Roethlisberger's actually gets better. His numbers improved last year, but imho he didn't. These are the areas that must get better.
And I even forgot his lack of accuracy downfield.

Those are all very correct assessments. I won't argue with any of those. Hopefully, as he continues to mature in this offense, and grow he'll eliminate a lot of those things.

A lot of young QB's hold onto the ball too long. Heck, sometimes some of the older ones do as well. I'd like to blame the lack of progression reads and locking onto a target to the fact that outside of AJ, who else is he going to want to throw to without locking onto them, but I digress.

There's no doubt that he will continue to have to improve and grow if this team wants to make a serious run. There isn't one person out there that doesn't agree with that.

I'm just of the mind that I think he's a lot closer to being what this team needs than maybe some others on the board. If you go back and look across some of the first 3 years of other QB's his numbers are about spot on from his rookie year, to year 2. Let's all hope that year 3 continues that trend. With the talent around him, if "it" clicks for him, this offense will be scary good.

Every last word of this.

The homers only look at the overall stats and say he "improved". Numbers simply going up don't necessarily mean the QB improved. Every year has its own situation and you have to judge it accordingly. You could put Dalton on the Jets and he'd look like he doesn't belong in the NFL. That wouldn't make his abilities any worse/different than we see here. It's its own situation.

I'll add to your list that he doesn't have the confidence nor shown the ability to consistently squeeze passes in tight coverage when necessary due to his lack of arm strength on shorter passes and accuracy. This imo is the biggest reason he struggles against good defenses.

I'm not saying he can't improve, or even that I think he won't, just that last year's apparent improvement was more mirage than anything else. The PFF stats and their dividing his passes into zones demonstrate his problems very well. He well could apparently improve more this year if only because he has a couple of new weapons and a couple more who have another season under their belt. I just need to see evidence that he has evolved in at least some of those areas I listed. Hey, I'm rooting for him, because we're going to be dealing with him surely over the next five years, anyway.

What game were you watching? We had a WR throw a TD and Dandy threw a pick 6 from on our 2 yard line. And that win was far before Washington was good. If we played them after week 8, I don't think we stand a chance.

He had a pick 6 in a bad area. Gruden took just as much blame for that call as Dalton did for throwing it. Sanu threw the huge D to Green, but overall, Dalton played a really good game. I was watching that game. Just seems like Dalton played well minus one play. Didn't the Redskins have an emotional win over the Saints by then and was starting to roll a little bit? I think Dalton played pretty well actually in that game.

I guess maybe that was just my perspective as most do not agree with me.

Really feeling good about this one. With all the Bengals have done to improve and with what little the Bears have done in the way of improvement, this should be a great warm up game to start the season.
After watching last nights debacle, I'm LOLing at the Ravens front office for riding the Flaco bus. He IS NOT a top tier Qb!
With that said, Andy Dalton is poised to take it to the next level and be THE TOP TIER QB in the AFC.
I predict him to be in the 38 to 44 TD per season range starting this season.
It might be a little premature, but barring any serious injuries I think we had better stock up on the long handled uderdrawers because this years super bowl looks to be "piercing" cold according to the farmers almanac. Speaking of piercing, I have a camal toe from hell that I need to take care of if you know what I mean. I'm outa here.

I agree that the Bengals will win this one, but you really need to put down the Kool-Aid. Really, the Bears have done little to improve the team? Did you not pay attention during the offseason, or were you too busy tongue-juggling Dalton's nut sack? You do realize that the Bears D is even better than it was last year, right? And they were #5 in the league. No way the Bengals put up 38, except in your wettest dream. Be realistic, it will be more like 24 pts.

If anything the Bengals squeak out a victory.

Pay no heed to June. Come to the board more often, she makes predictions and guarantees like this every week. It's her shtick or signature if you will.

Just think you're underestimating what the Bears did this offseason. We've got 4 new faces on the O-Line (2 FAs 2 rooks), all upgrades. We've also added 2 vet LBs (in FA ) & 2 decent rooks .
We also upgraded our TE position w/ 3 FAs.
As a matter of fact. The Bears have 20+ new faces on the club.
I just don't get your opening statement.

Someone is going to win 20-17.....probably the Bears.....

I was going to post the identical score and also post that I wasn't sure who was going to win.

week 1 games are always difficult to call, and this one is almost impossible.

Its called addition by subtraction. both teams were 10-6 and Cincinatti was watching film, yes film from the CFL and 2002 raiders to try to see what Trestman is gonna do. It will all be about halftime adjustments as usual, but there is no blow out gonna come from cincinatti.
