The timing of how it went public does look awful. So I get it.

But….

A significant mental health issue like severe anxiety really would explain everything from Simmons side. From his poor play to the way he responded when Embiid and Doc criticized him publicly to how he tried to avoid teammates and distance himself from the organization.

While it is possible that he has mental issues, the way this has unfolded makes that seem hard to believe. Mark Spears said he was told that Simmons was in a good head space before the season. His camp made NO REFERENCE to mental issues until the Sixers stopped paying him and he grudgingly came to camp and pouted.

Embiid and Doc took it outside the locker room. That's a no no in sports. Say whatever you want inside the locker room, but be supportive publicly has been a thing in sports (especially professional sports) since sports were invented.

Embiid was understandable to an extent because it was immediately after a tough loss and he's an emotional player. Doc saying what he said was worse. He's knows better. Not only is he the coach, but he's also a former player. If one of his coaches had said the same about him as he did Simmons...I don't see Doc reacting like Simmons has, but he damn sure would have been pissed.

That isn't to excuse Simmons behavior because his reaction reached beyond ridiculous a long time ago.

This situation is mainly on Simmons...but the Sixers aren't blameless.

That's a fair take, but my sense is a lot of stuff happened, not just Simmons shitting the bed in those playoffs, that led to Doc, Embiid and others getting frustrated with Simmons. Has he been suffering from mental health issues for the past few years? Maybe so, I certainly couldn't say no with any knowledge. But whatever the case, what we do know is this guy never put in the work to improve his game. He hasn't been a good teammate. And I think the team, after publicly having his back for a long time, finally let its real feelings be known.

Their real mistake was not trading him sooner, knowing what they knew about his character.

I do want to move him, but at this point that he needs to step back on the court and rehabilitate himself. No one is going to trade for Simmons right now. If there was a way for him to forfeit his salary, and allow for his unconditional release, I would even consider that, if it didn't have any cap implications, but the NBA doesn't work that way.

He would t do that now anyway cause no one has cap space

You could still get a decent return for him.

You just aren’t getting the bs more than harden price moreys was asking for in bad faith to try to go “see Ben, I tried To trade you, but no one wanted you”

The Sixers would know if he had those issues before and they would certainly not be minimizing it.

He is not movable at the moment, he has shown the whole league the lengths he will go to not to have to play.

He’s a 3 time All Star, former ROTY, arguably the best perimeter defender in the NBA, and he has a unicorn like skill set in a big body. Sixers have an asset and they’re not going to sell it cheap when they control said asset for 4 years. Period. End of that story.

Had he stuck to his guns and sat out while making it known he was working out he might have been traded by now.

Meh. You don’t maximize Embiid’s Prime by selling an asset at a bargain basement price. Ironically, you’ve cited Embiid’s prime. The Sixers aren’t in the same position the Rockets were in with Harden. They were blowing that up and actually benefitted from taking back less because it helped them tank. Because of Embiid’s prime years you can’t sell Simmons for peanuts.

I guarantee you 90 percent of the league is against Simmons on this. If they weren’t we would be hearing comments.

Tell me the last team to antagonize and sabotage their star player that came out ahead.

I’ll wait
