All depends on who they find to be a 3rd star, if they can find a 3rd star.
They need somebody that can run offense and compliment sets. Cs depend too much on ISO ball. When they were clicking the ball popped that year without Kyrie because of his knee.

That would be great if they can find a 3rd star. Have no idea who they would be interested in.
That’s why they need a 3rd team. Cause they need a guy to pair with the jays

They can use their tpe to add another player with a reasonable free and clear for the trade

I'm for anything that can make the Celtics better.

That’s a strong angle to bring. Maybe Cs involvement is using their trade cap space to facilitate a deal where they bring back another nice piece.

I honestly didn’t even consider Jaylon Brown this summer when I would do Simmons scenarios in my head. I think it may come time for Boston to explore changing it up. And that would entail a Brown or Tatum. But is Simmons the best they can do if Brown is on the market?
Simmons is a fatally flawed, team cancer headcase.

It would be criminal of Boston to include Brown in any deal for Ben Simmons.
Maybe Boston wants a youth centered deal heavy on picks and doesn’t want to spend it all on one player or if they do, a different skill set than Simmons. If the Cs are in on this, Simmons does make them different. They may even want to use him as a facilitating 4 like Draymond or at a minimum he gives the Cs a cover for KD and Giannis. If the Celtics have goals that are sooner as opposed to later a Bucks and/or Nets series has to enter the calculus. He’s also a guy that doesn’t need shots but has growth potential. Facts: the people Simmons spent most of his time with for skill development weren’t great at that. Maybe the Celtics bet on their model to unlock him. Is there a player that Brown can bring back in a deal that would have the upside of Simmons? If somebody unlocks him he’s a 1st team All NBA guy and the best two way player in the game. If he doesn’t go there, he’s a 3 time All Star, a great transition player who assisted on more 3s last year than anyone in the NBA and arguably the best perimeter defender in the league for a team that’s looking to regain a defensive identity. Simmons and Horford played very well together without Embiid on the floor and Horford at 5. I think Stevens should shop Brown but I don’t know if he brings back better than Simmons, unless the plan is Tatum’s 23 and when he hit his prime in 2-3 years we got a youth laden deal with 4-5 pieces with growth potential and maybe 1 becomes a star, another guy is a plus starter, and some role guys. If I’m the Celtics, I probably opt for trade Brown for youth, bet on your scouting, projection, and development staff instead of trading for Simmons who has legit question marks about his make-up.
It's an unconscionable risk to hope for best case scenario on Simmons.

Hope is not a plan.

Start looking at dudes under 17.something million who youd like to add with Marcus smart and 3 first round picks lol

Not that any Lakers fans would ever say we told you so (especially since he's no longer on the team)...

but remember when Sixers fans insisted that Simmons was far better than Lonzo?

Fun times....:heh:

He is.

Still.

Really not close.

Or maybe…

The 6er culture really is that bad. And Simmons just needs a change of scenery to reach his potential.

Still wouldn’t trade Brown for him right now, but I do think Simmons has comparable impact on the game when playing his best. AND Simmons has a significantly higher ceiling, albeit with a lot more risk.

Would have been the type of deal the 6ers could have made before all the drama.

I wanted the Celtics to sign and trade for lonzo this summer

He brings a lot of what you guys need. Pass first, good decisionmaker and would keep all your scorers happy.

Schroder isn't really a pass first PG like Lonzo and even if he were, Lonzo has elite vision and passing that Schroder doesn't.

The numbers say different...all of them.

Basically, he could be...but he's not.
Exactly, all this talk about this guy and that guy is great but the number one thing that is needed is someone that wants this guy.

I don’t think Morey moves Simmons for that.

Yes, Simmons has a higher ceiling.

Leave the headcase stuff to the side for a moment, though. The Celtics would be betting on Simmons becoming some type of outside threat and FT shooter... (that's the only way Simmons reaches this hypothetical "high ceiling")

How many years has Simmons refused to get better as a shooter? There's no more "benefit of the doubt", IMO. Simmons is pretty fatally flawed.

Meanwhile, Brown is young... on a great contract... he has a great attitude by all accounts... he's a legitimate star in his own right... and he's arguably a better player in a playoff setting (which is what it is all about).

But if the Tatum/Brown pairing won't work, what do you think you can get for Brown?

So Simmons agreed to meet with a team doctor.

I think ^this^ would be a rash conclusion to jump to.

As has already been mentioned, the NBA is a wing-driven league now.

Furthermore, the C's have some flexibility (esp after this year) to try to add a third star.

I don't see why our attitude should be something like, "better jump at Simmons now because this may be the best we can do" panic button time.

Brown and Tatum have had some playoff success. And they are still only 25 and 23, respectively.
