I don't know how contracts work in that sense, but if he is claiming mental health issues, they should be in the know about what he is doing to get better if he isn't going to use their doctors.

I don't think HIPAA plays into this.

Seems like it would fall under similar category as an employee being required to have a doctors note to return to work when they've been out for more than 3 days. The employer doesn't get or need to know why the employee received medical care, just that they received it, are fit to return to work and what capacity they are fit to return in.

My bad on the acronym error.

I'm no expert, but in my opinion, the Sixers should be able to have access to the existence of appointments and whether or not he is being treated. But I don't think they should be able to have access to the contents of those sessions, even the topics discussed should be considered out of bounds. Much of the need for therapy to go next level and drop the stigma often associated with mental health entails a modicum of privacy and the idea of what happens in session stays between doctor and patient.
are they asking for that or are they just asking for who he is going to for help?

sounds like he is satisfying their request...

Dan Patrick just said that Shams is reporting that there may be real interest in a trade between the Celtics and Sixers for Simmons. Shams didn't name any players, but apparently the Boston media is assuming it's Jaylen Brown. <----

Oh great. If Stevens gets rid of the teams 2nd best player for a mentally fragile PG that can't hit free throws that wouldn't be good.

The optics are that they are unnecessarily antagonizing him to get access to personal medical information they don’t have a right to in order to steal more money from him
Or that they are trying to protect their investment.....

After all, what does he have to hide????

They know who he's seeing.

They are fining him for not sharing more info.

the article even says that doc told him to sit out a shootaround and they still went after him.

It's not a good look.
He signed a contract to play and that means play how whoever is paying you tells you to. If you don’t then you don’t get paid. It really should be that simple.

The Celtics put millions into research on how Brown and Tatum could physically occupy the same space, but the research said no, so the worse of the players has to go.

I wonder how Brown fits into the Sixers system...

If the current agreement doesn’t allow a team to evaluate a player they are paying millions to then they can all thank Ben Simmons for getting that changed this off-season.

Ben just keeps looking for loopholes. Who knows what he is actually getting help with.

He is hurting the players, no question about that

they seem to be doing fine without him.

but if this trade weren't to happen, what happens next?

Ben just keeps digging a deeper and deeper hole with them.

and there might not be a coming back with the fans

It will have to come to a head in arbitration or something because the sixers are not going to let this charade continue I don’t think. I meant he is hurting the players long term in terms of changes that will be in the agreement.

I agree

he made attempts and they cheered when there was a video of him hitting a 3-pointer in the offseason

but he never brought it to a game and that confused me. He worked hard on it and never followed through.

Sometimes it just takes 11 years, as you can see with Rubio launching 3's at a career high rate and hitting 43% of them!

maybe

I think the Sixers fans were more than willing to get behind him if he were to take a shot every once in a while.

but he never did...then he lost the ability to take a free-throw...then a layup...it was getting worse
