Giants | Winter ball making Brandon Belt's confidence stronger

Fri, 16 Dec 2011 00:46:33 -0800

San Francisco Giants OF Brandon Belt is hitting well for Leones del Escogido in winter ball, batting .300 (30-for-100) with a .395 on-base percentage and .470 slugging percentage. He has drawn 16 walks to just 19 strikeouts, and 11 of his 30 hits went for extra bases. This is reminding people of Belt's performance when he first came up to the parent club. "I had gotten away from that comfortable feeling I'd had," Belt said. "I hit the ball very well. I hit the ball hard and consistently. I felt like I did really well, and I got back to that point where I wanted to be."

Good to hear. I hope the kid can build up some confidence. When he looks confident, I really think he can be a .275 hitter with 25-30 HR's. I know that's a big "if", but I like his bat in the lineup. Hell, even .250 with a .350obp and 20-25HR's would be good by me.

Thanks for the link Mays.

I have 2 responses to this.

1) Yay! I think this guy is the real deal and it is very encouraging that he is kicking ass. Much better than hearing he's hitting .250 and striking out a lot.

2) Todd Linden hit well in winter ball too. So did Daniel Ortmeier and Damon Minor and JR Phillips and Tony Torcato and Santa Claus.

Nick Lowrey batted 3.000 in winter ball because the pitchers were so afraid of him, they awarded hits while he was arriving to the ball park.

Tim Lincecum once pitched a no-hitter in winter ball. From his chaise-lounge on the beach, while drinking several Coronas.

Despite my number 2 above... that is great news. I hope we see Hector on the team as the backup C at some point. -That is alot of Ks though!

In a game where the opposing pitcher threw a no-hitter, Nick Lowery went 3-4 with 2 HRs.

I have no prob with 35 K if they go along with 8 HRs...

And to think he is the organizations #3 catching prospect!!!

tz, I know ToJo is one of the catchers ahead of him, but I forget who is the other one is. Can you help me out?

Yeah, Cam, trying to be humorous, trying to get the reference right while keeping with the pitching metaphor. :fail:

I think you got it. It can work both ways. Just ask the kids. Kids?

No answer. They must be stoned.
