This would be like removing your balls so you can't get testicular cancer.

I've been saying this for two years.

Make one AQ football conference and one basketball conference (with Syracuse, UConn, Georgetown, Duke, North Carolina, etc).

The football conference would have Virginia Tech, Florida State, TCU, Miami (when they come back), Pitt, West Virginia and Maryland. Maybe Notre Dame can become a full member. That's not really so bad.

Thing is, with A&M trying to go to the SEC, they may have missed their moment. All of the best teams in the ACC and the Big East are probably hoping to be SEC member #14, #15 or #16.

Why would the ACC(a great conference) take any(full) members from the Big East?

Pitt,Rutgers and Syracuse are the only valuable properties.

thats an awful idea...Pitt, UNC, Maryland, Notre Dame etc. have to choose whether they want to be in a football or basketball conference?

Well UNC football sucks.

And it's really more about Football & Basketball vs. just Basketball. The schools that are competitive in both would go to the "football conference", because that's where the money is.

They won't be for the forseeable future, when the NCAA is done with them. They have been an average to below average team since expansion, but they sure have been good on NSD. :L

As for a merge, it is far more likely that the cutter ACC members stick together and add four BE teams, Pitt, UCONN, West Virginia and Syracuse.

I for one hope Clemson bolts the ACC for greener pastures. We have the fan base, facilities, recruiting, and finances to be relatively successful in the SEC (assuming we could hire a coach...), but don't add much to the geographical footprint of the current SEC TV market. I've also heard rumors that SCar, UF, Jawja, and Kentucky have agreed to block any team from being invited from their respective states, but haven't seen or heard anything beyond that.

Pitt already chose. Jamie Dixon was hellbent on staying in the Big East for basketball. This was when there was talk about the possibility of the Big 10 move.

An ACC/Big East merge makes too much sense to actually happen.

UNC is awful at football.

John Bunting was awful...
2008 - 4 of the losses were by a total of 9 points thats pretty competitive.
UNC has more bowl game appearances and just as many National Titles as Wisconsin...

Big East basketball, while awesome, will not decide which conference Pitt finally ends up in when everything settles. To be honest, I'd completely support making a move to separate from the basketball-only schools, and bring in some ACC/CUSA schools (BC, Maryland, East Carolina), if they conference had enough power to do so, but they don't. So Pitt, and the rest of the Big East will be at the mercy of other moves by other schools, and most likely will have to jump to the B1G or ACC to stay viable in all sports.

Pitt will not end up in the Big East as it currently exists, and jaime Dixon's opinions just don't matter that much. The ACC will get them if they allow WVU as well. The Big Ten will get them if rejected by Texas and Notre Dame. That is that.
