Is BB trying to prove something? First it was Chandler. Which I think most of us agreed that was a good move considering NE wouldn't want to pay him whst he'll likely get? Then came the Collins trade? A lot of us still scratching our heads over this move and waiting to see how it plays out? I just read on CBS sports Sheard didn't make the trip to SF. He was tweeting from the Celtics game last night. He wasn't on any injury reports. Has played nearly 70% of the defensive snaps? Yet he's not in SF? Is BB working on some new defensive scheme where you don't put any pressure on a QB? Or is there something going on behind closed doors with that defensive unit?
Now I realize Kap isn't likely to get sacked much at al. But come on BB this is starting to remind me of the last month of last season. It's way too early for you to start making those dumb decisions already. NE needs HFA

I feel he's never really put a premium on the passrush.

The Sheard thing is weird, is it a punishmen?

The article didn't say. I was hoping someone in NE heard something more?

I heard Flowers passed him on the depth chart. Don't know why he didn't travel

Sheard has not performed to expectation. He started off really well and was making plays, then drifted into the abyss. Hardly ever heard his name at all. BB usually sits a guy out to make a point. When he stays behind on a road trip, it's a serious warning.

Because BB doesn't ever give a reason for trading, releasing or demoting any player, the media gets as bad as the media during political campaigns. If you listen closely, it's always a 'guess' or 'possibly' something, in other words they don't have anything and they're making stuff up. Belichick would NEVER do anything to hurt his team, he has always done things to HELP his team. He'll never belittle any player he lets go.

Go back through the years and look at the players he's let go and none of them ever were a great player after leaving other than Adam Venateri. Moss, Seymour, McGinest, Mankins, Milloy. Great players with the Pats, nearly invisible once they were gone.

One overwhelming factor is the fact that trying to pay C. Jones, Collins, Hightower, Butler, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah...gets pretty damn expensive. Everyone you sign, the next guy wants as much or more. Collins went public with his demand for Von Miller money and Belichick wasn't going to get into a public fight with that. Heard that Collins wasn't close to happy with BB's initial offer and was doing some sulking in the locker room.

I think this weekend will an opportunity for rookies and younger players to show their stuff. If they can't do well against the 49ers, then they won't be worth keeping around next year. Possibly to the end of this season.

I think we all trust BB. But some of his decisions seem to baffle you. From the outside it's as if he takes it personally and says I'll show you. Granted he has the resume to pull that off.

From a defensive stand point this season we really haven't hear much of anyone's name. Flowers and Roberts along with HT are the only one's earning their pay check. Butler has been the star of all the DBs. just from looking at it I thought Sheard was doing well. I hope this helps motivate him and not have a reverse effect. NE can't afford to lose anymore D players.

We know BB can't keep everyone based on finances. Many of those players you mentioned were on their last legs. Slightly different circumstances with what's going on with this current group.

As usual you're spot on with the way BB deals with players and the media. He's too professional to demean a player. Thus I think part of the reason the majority of players that leave have the utmost respect for BB and the org. I imagine BB has a heart-to-heart with most of them weeks prior to gettinv released. He lays down the law and when you don't meet those expectations you're gone. They have no one to blame but themselves. Hope you're right. Hope these kids prove to be diamonds in the rough.
Go Pats

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard did not travel with the team to San Francisco.:suds:

Rumors started swirling after Sheard's Instagram account posted a video from the Celtics game last night. Sheard was outstanding last season and at least part of the reason the Pats felt comfortable trading Chandler Jones, but he has steadily dropped down the depth chart this year. He played just 16 snaps on defense last week against the Seahawks, and it appears he is going to be a healthy scratch this week. In the final year of his deal, it looks like Sheard will be playing elsewhere next season.

I think Sheard did well as the second pass rusher behind Jones but, now that he is #1, Sheard is getting more attention (double teams, etc.) and he is having a tougher time getting open. IMHO, Long has lost a step or two and is no longer a primary pass rusher. Flowers is coming on but is not quite there yet. BB may be looking at a prime NFL free agent pass rusher in the off season as well as drafting one high in 2017.

Speculation abounds. The pass rush has been underperforming - that is clear.
Is it because the pass rushers are unhappy? I don't care.
Let Bill do what he needs to do.....
Perform or get lost!

Ya know...I think Flowers is the best PR on this team. Long/Nink are so bad IMO. I honestly think Nink is a liability on this defense. He was getting blown up all game. Flowers was the only getting pressure and then was the only one who could tackle someone. This is going to be troubling if Jabal does not get his shit straight. This team is to damn slow when Long, Nink, HT, Roberts are on the field at the same time. I honestly think Brady can run faster than HT or Roberts. Roberts looks like he just shit his pants and is trying to keep it from sliding down his leg when trying to keep up with a RB. I hope Van Noy gets more reps. He had a pretty decent game (sack) and looks to have more speed. Still not sure why Mingo is not getting the reps either. I am starting to think this was another bad trade on BB part, which is why he went out and got Van Noy.

I thought the Rowe/Butler were the best CB on the field. Ryan sucked, he really sucked. DMC sucked too, he could not keep up with the TE, and that is shocking to me. I think HT is better at stuffing the run and putting pressure on the QB's. We need a better coverage LB, if only we had one.................wait.....nope...HT can't cover RB out of the backfield. At this point I would move Chung up to LB and see what happens.

Solder had a tough day. Offense did their usual "lets make it look easy, then struggle for the end of the 1st and all of 2nd Q" routine. Mitchell needs more reps. That was such a good play on both MM and Brady part. Awesome catch and run, amazing throw by TB on that on.

Definitely agree Flowers is getting the most pressure. Nick unfortunately looks like his injuries have gotten the best of him. I fear he's done. I like Long and Roberts in certain situations but you're spot on combing them with the rest of the 5.5 40 squad is a recipe for disaster. I like the idea of moving Chung up as a coverage LB.

Mitchell is a player but not sure I'm ready to giv s him a lot of reps over a healthy Hogan at this juncture?

Can't stand Ryan. They better let him go next year. DMC looks to have lost a step as well.

Not sure we have a fix? Too slow to play zone or man coverages.
