Ruben signed Eric Kratz, 35, to a minor-league deal on Friday and he will report to Triple A Lehigh Valley. Vital backup for Carlos, 36.

Dumpster diving again. Braindead can't help himself.
You are correct Retro. Amaro can't help himself. Kratz is toast. He can't throw out base stealers anymore and his hitting is at the Mendoza line.

Why Amaro did this makes no sense as usual when he has Ruiz entering into that window where he can no longer throw out players at second.

did you clowns ever think (ahaha, of course not!) that vets who still want to play are important depth for the minor leagues to help younger players? the phils currently have a 24 year in moore paired with a 22 year old lino at AAA. and their best offensive catcher in 23 year old knapp is at AA with no real vet help either. older players enjoy the ability to pass on their years of knowledge to younger players who have a shot. and if ruiz is traded, then maybe he comes up as a vet presence to further aid rupp.

facts, never let them get in the way. they'll hurt your brain.

A veteran presence can be helpful. Maybe they can hire him as a catchers coach. If Ruiz is traded they should not use Kratz as a blocker of youth. The Philies could bring up a young catcher to get valuable experience at the big league level. This would be the year to do that!

Where is this notion that Ruiz is tradeable coming from?

What "young catcher" would we bring up, by the way? Is this like an abstract catcher? Do you have to squint to see him?

Ruiz is fairly close to the "done" window of his career. He is often failing to throw out runners at second and Rupp has replaced him has the "starting" catcher. I doubt seriously if he is trade material similar to Howard and Utley.
