Florida trades Ballard, prospect Victor Oreskovich to Vancouver for Bernier, Michael Grabner and Canucks' 1st-round pick confirmed.

well canucks fans that must be a start... Raymond is going to stay for sure now I think. that is $4.2 on the cap minus $2M for Bernier.

Bieksa to be moved?

Save 2M+ and get a 1st round pick in the process for a top 4 D man who was absolutely horrible last year. I like.

With that said, Ballard will probably resort to his old solid self in Vancouver. He was forced to be a top pairing guy here last year, and he's definitely not that. He was good the year before, though.

Either way, I like the deal.

why would the mean Bieksa is gone? Ballard replaces Mitchell pretty much?
(not that I'd complain if we god a good deal for juice, just wondering)

I was probably more of a fan of Bernier than most, but he just couldn't lose those stone hands.
edit: kinda sad to see Grabner gone, but oh well.

Ballard: 156 hits, 201 blocks last year
Would have put him 2nd on Canucks in hits, and first in blocks (by 86).
love those incoming stats.

I love this trade, if it's true.

For the Vancouver fans who don't know Oreskovich, he's a big body on the checking lines. Should be well liked when he's on he's usually out there hitting people and playing with a lot of heart. Don't mind losing him though, especially if Grabner is coming to Florida along with the 1st.

Geez - Ballard is signed through 2014/2015
makes him our longest signed d-man right away - by a wide margin.
27 years old, just getting into the prime years for a d-man.

Another reason I'm glad he was traded.
With the Panthers luck though, this conditional trade won't happen.

So any word on what the condition is? I'm guessing it's that the player the Canucks want won't be there?

Yes. It's a done deal.
Ballard and Oreskovich for Bernier, Grabner, and either this year's 1st or next year's 1st, depending on whether or not the player Vancouver likes is available at #25, tonight.
