3 year 12 million dollar deal. 4 million guaranteed. I guess Bowen and Cariker gets cut and we save a bundle. Jenkins and Baker are now are starting DE's. Would love to add Hageman or Tuitt to this group.

I would not count on them making a move here before training camp at the earliest. Its not as if we are pressed for the cap space. And if they were not going to give Carriker in particular every chance to get back, it would have served the team better to release him last year.

We save $3 million if we cut them both. We save a little more of they are post june 1st cuts. Whixch is why i say there will be no rush. We could carrythem until trainig camp and it wont hurt us.

Don't be so sure about Baker as the starting DE. There has been talk that he will play NT and move COfield to DE. I think that makes a whole lot of sense.

Before June 1st
Cutting Carriker would save - $3,166,666
Cuttin Bowen would save - $1,980,000

After June 1st
Carriker would save - $5,000,000
Bowen would save - $4,500,000

Dead space money would go into next year if they release them before June 1st

If release before June first, all prorated bonus money would go into THIS year. So we cut them now, save between 3-4 million for cutting them both which in light of injury would be fine. But I just get the feeling they will wait, see if either or both are healthy, and proceed from there. Its not as if we are strapped for cap space, and there isnt a player we are itching to get to replace them because if healthy they make us a better team.

BUt thats the rub with finishing 3-13... almost any one is considered replaceable in the eyes of most people at that point.

Well, $12M, 3 years for Baker ($4M guaranteed) seems like "RESPECT" to me, huh Shark? Skins taking care of their own I see. I still believe Carriker & Bowen are gone after June 1. That approach would leave them additional cap space to look at other veterans cut post June 1, or roster cuts during the preseason of which a few players may interest the Skins.

Not a bad deal for Baker, but I want to see where the other $8 million in the deal are before i call it massive respect. As for Bowen and Carriker, I agree if they arent healthy then they will be cut. BUt if they are, they will be in training camp with the rest of the team.

Deal is even better than originally reported. It is a 3 year deal for 9M, with only $3M guaranteed. He can earn an additional $1M/yr if he reaches performance milestones such as PB appearances, sack totals, etc. If he does reach those milestones, he is a steal, even at $4M/yr. This was a very cap friendly signing. Another good job by Allen and the FO.

he earns 4 million this year, 3 million signing bonus and 1 million salary. Then the deal declines. At 4 million in 2014 he should be a starting player. walterfootball did not like this contract. it doesn't say how 2015-17 is broken out.

First off, I'm sure walterfootball evaluators didn't pay special attention to Baker. He came on very strong at seasons end once given more playing time. He will certainly be part of the rotation and receive enough snaps to warrant a "starter role" at this kind of money. I like the deal...

He is the only DL that provided any type of penetration. He is very quick for his size. Cofield was good at holding his ground, but rarely collapses the pocket. The same with Jenkins. Bowen did neither. Baker was routinely in the backfield, blowing plays up. Put him at NT and watch sack totals go up for Kerrigan and Rak as baker forces the QB out of the pocket and into their arms. Good signing.

I like the signing. I was just proving that he is guaranteed 4 million this season.
