I am sure I will have a different perspective than most everyone (everyone?) on this board but the way I see it Subban didnt do anything the Flyers don't do themselves all the time and they didn't like it.

Scrums and pushing after the play? Yes. Lots of chirping. Yes.

I thought Richards was going after Kostitsyn and Subban, like a good teammate stood up for him. Just like Odonnell seemed to do for the Flyers.

I guess Subban should skate around in awe of everyone around him. Oh well nothing says 'respect' like bitching about other players on radio shows.

If Lappierre chocked Hartnell he should be ashamed of himself, and suspended if proven, though I never claimed he was anything but a POS.

I hated every second of PK Subban last night. But that doesn't mean i think he did anything out of the ordinary.. hes a good hockey player, no doubt about it. and to be honest i dont see what richie is so upset about.. maybe that he didnt get a chance to fight him? maybe i was mistaken but i'm pretty sure they both dropped the glove during one of the scraps but the linesman already had them in their clutches, so no fight happened..

either way, i hope subban gets lit up on monday, cause i hate his guts now.. i hate most guys on other teams that talk a lot and are a pest.. see sean avery, sidney crosby, matt cooke, colton orr, etc... and its the same as ppl on other teams hating hartnell and carcillo.. there's a place in the NHL for guys like that, and people are going to want to see them get crushed, fans and players alike

Exactly, and he took a cheap shot while the refs were holding the two of them. Little pussy. Tried breaking it up, then decided he wanted to be the center of attention, refs came over, grabbed em both, and he throws a hook around the ref.

hopefully next game he gets stomped.

This is funny, especially the bolded part (from Lebrun at ESPN):

So, remember last season's Stanley Cup finals when Chris Pronger tried to keep the game puck away from the Chicago Blackhawks after a few games, angering the opposition. There was the Flyers star blueliner Tuesday night trying to keep the game puck away from the Canadiens, who wanted it for goalie Carey Price and his shutout. Habs center Scott Gomez and captain Brian Gionta chased down Pronger and got it from him.

Price? He then flipped the puck to a kid in the stands.

"I was wondering what was going on," Price shrugged afterward. "I should tell those guys [Gomez and Gionta] that I don't really care about the puck.
"

Although equally funny is the thought of Gomez and Gionta chasing down Pronger. There was a great shot of Gionta and Pronger standing next to each other last night. It looked like Chris and his 8 year old son.

Presumably Gionta was on Gomez' shoulders

No one is saying that at all comeds. He needs to watch his mouth though. Especially around veterans who have been around for awhile. I can guarantee that if he keeps it up then goons are going to come after him. Richards is just giving him a warning that he should knock it off a little bit before that happens.

Maybe that's what he meant. I don't know. Either way I don't see Subban acting that differently than a lot of rookies (or non rookies) do whether in individual games like last night or as a whole. And I dont think its fair to expect a player to avoid or put up with verbal or physical confrontations on the ice just because he is a rookie.

Playing-wise he has had his ups and down, and with his style probably will for years, but overall I think he has handled himself pretty well especially considering some teams have stated part of their game plans were to get under the rookies skin.

IMHO, PK Subban has been one of the top ten players in the NHL dating back to the playoffs last season. His defensive game against the Capitals and the Penguins, post-season was exemplary.... and, it doesn't look like he's slowed down at all this season.

I can't comment on anything he's saying to the opponent's on the ice, but from what I've seen of his skill, maybe he's got some room to yap... is Richards upset that they had a big 0 on the score board, last night? Maybe he should worry about that a little more than a rookie blue-liner getting in his head.

He did do that, though how hard the punch was and what chance it had to hit is debatable. I could probably find other instances of that happening from other players in the same game last night. Its not like anyone clocked anyone when the refs had them. Its not great, but I'd rather see that than two players hitting each other in the backs while leaving the ice like Andrei and Mike did in what led up to the whole thing.

Dude, I used to LOVE Mike Richards, he was/is tough, hard nosed and a great player.....I'm starting to sour on him a bit even though he's still a great player. Every day he's sounding more and more like a whiny bitch. If you have a problem with something Mikey, handle it on the ice and leave it there. You play on a team with Daniel Carcillo and Scott Hartnell so why don't you call them out or tell them to stop acting like punks. Either reign in your team or stop crying to the media for perceived wrongs done to the poor, helpless Flyers.

And really??? Hartnell is crying foul??? Really??? He was one of the biggest cheap shot artists out there when he played for Nashville.

EDIT: And this is coming from a Sharks fan who HATED Bryan Marchment even when he was a beloved member (to most Sharks fans) on the team.

I don't mind what Richie had to say. In a game of cliched interviews, it's nice to hear players say what they truly feel - even its born out of frustration.

The fact of the matter is, the Flyers had just lot an extremely aggravating game. They fired everything but the kitchen sink at Carey Price, and came up with nothing.

They outchanced, outshot, and generally outplayed the Habs for the first two periods. When the score became 3-0 Montreal shut it down defensively - so big props to them.

Subban obviously had Richards fired up; good on him. What he was doing worked. I don't buy this whole respect nonsense. Your team got beat, Mike, next time go out and make sure that doesn't happen. The "I'm going to be like Steve Downie" right hook around the official was lame, though. Richie had every right to be incensed over that.

He's a fierce competitor and I like that. He's also not politically correct....I like that too. All I'm saying is, if you're going to bring up stuff you don't like to the media, then reprimand your own teammates and tell clowns like Carcillo and Hartnell to tone it on the ice in house (in the locker room). The Flyers play fast and loose and it's successful for them.....good on them. But they don't like it when it's done to them? If your team plays on the edge, you'll get the edge back.....just don't complain to the media when it does unless your prepared to tell the guys in your own locker room the same thing.

I'm still a Mike Richards fan.....he's just looking more and more like a hypocrite with his complaints to the media given some of his fellow teammates.

EDIT: The Ducks teams the last 4 years or so were very rough and very cheap, but I don't remember Niedermeyer complaining to the media as much as Mikey has when the Ducks got a taste of their own medicine. I could be wrong though. I'm not a huge Niedermeyer fan either when it comes to "class".

Who really knows what goes on in the Flyers locker room? Like I said, this stuff makes the game more interesting. And maybe more people will tune in next Monday.

It beats Mike Richards saying what he normally does. "You know we did some good things out there, ho hum, just couldn't get the win tonight."

Almost EVERY NHL interview sounds like this. From a Flyer fan that has watched Mike Richards for many years, this is a breath of fresh air. I don't care what he had to say - the fact of the matter is, he is showing emotion.

People harp on Sidney Crosby for the same thing all the time, but who wouldn't want that guy on their team.

For the record I don't really have a problem with anything that was said or done last night. I think Richards is an excellent player and a good guy. The respect comments were odd to me but not too many players want to say good things about opponents after a hard fought loss. And I guess its frowned up to say "hes a dick" in post game interviews.

While I don't really feel the Flyers outplayed the Habs last night I do think they are a better more complete team that will in all likelihood go much farther. I am as surprised by the Habs start as anyone. I fear/expect to be complaining about them and Martin's coaching in no time.

The Habs looked great, Comeds. They play a stout defensive game, and it worked wonders last night. Price deserves a lot of credit, but his defense opened a lot of lanes for him. Once the third period rolled around, the Flyers didn't get a sniff - and that is how good teams lock the game down.
