Opinions aside, here are the cliff notes -

- Everyone in the Lions organization hates Jim Shwartz

- Jeff Backus is apparently the guy willing to speak for everyone else.

- Backus accuses Schwartz of many things, including:

  • In 2012, Schwartz was lazy.
  • Schwartz didn’t put in the necessary effort.
  • Schwartz was resting on the team’s laurels of 2011 when they made the playoffs for the first time this century.
  • Schwartz didn’t hold anyone accountable.
  • Schwartz didn’t coach during practices like he had in previous seasons.
  • Schwartz didn’t put in the necessary hours watching game film or preparing for the next week’s opponent.
  • That Schwartz basically bought into his own hype and just thought things would progress in 2012 because of the team’s postseason berth in 2011.
- Schwartz is apparently a sugar daddy to a 20 something hottie who he trots around in public, and an adulterer to his wife.

- Schwartz asked the Lions to find his girlfriend a place to live.

- The Lions interest in Brian Kelly is real.

The guy uses 5 paragraphs were 2 would suffice. I hate fluff with my information!

But aside from his extra pontification I would say that is probably a close approximation of what the feelings are inside the ALlen Park Compound.

I do think it is funny Backus is the source as he has a place with the team and that could be a very iffy proposition if those are his actual thoughts!

I liked Schwartz. His fire was refreshing from an organization that liked it's head coaches a little more bland. But with anything to much is never a good thing. As for being lazy???? I can't imagine any head coach getting to that level and being lazy! Maybe stubborn! Foolish? or even careless but not lazy!

I hate the fact he can't get his emotions in check! That he doesn't groom young guys or give them time when the season is lost to asses their ability! I think his time is coming to an end and anything less than a 7-9 season with some good wins and meaningful games in December and he is a goner!

He may have been gone this last season if not for a new contract and the Fords may look at Mayhew and Schwartz as a package deal.

The author could use an editor to help him with his word choices, let alone what makes for respectable journalism. It's easy to cite an unnamed source to quote a third person. That has no credence, it's just rumors. Wrap yourself in righteous indignation and sling shit to see what sticks, doesn't matter if it's really defensible journalism, heck he's just fighting the good fight (or so the author says).

One thing was accurate. Schwartz does look good in those pants. However, he's not being paid to look good, he's being paid to make good football decisions. On that score, the Schwartz is working his way out of a head coaching job.

It's about time. I was beginning to wonder if the Lions were even going to bother and have any off field issues this year. I think an article pointing out that our coach lacks leadership skills, isn't respected by his team, puts forth a lousy effort, is lazy and an adulterer is just what we needed. After all, what would this team accomplish if all they had to focus on was playing football?

Attitude reflects leadership Captain.

Anyone care to revise their Lions prediction after reading that article? I might have been a bit generous with a 7-9 prediction.

I respect Backus for calling out the douche nozzle Schwartz who I've personally been off the bandwagon since week 2 of last season when he was quivering in his shoes in front of Harbaugh.

The fact that he is already going to start letting 26 year old Delmas take the KVB approach to practice let's me know that he will be fired mid season or after the year, REGARDLESS. There will be to much team dissension. Players will be saying to themselves "How come this guy gets paid 5 million a year and doesn't have to practice half the time."

From now on, I will refer to Backus as Backus.

If Jeff Backus did bring out what he is being attributed as saying, it's pretty bold for an intern coach. Notice the article never quotes him directly, just a source saying he said. The whole blog is pretty weak on journalism, more character assassination than solid reporting.

I'm not big on changing coaches yearly, but this is the make or break for Schwartz. He either steps up and leads, or steps out and finds a D-Coordinator position somewhere else.

Well, in todays life we want answers now. We will have to wait on this Soap Opera. But 6-10 will get this guy fired. IMO.

The article seemed like a bunch of crap to me. First of all he starts out on a diatribe comparing himself to the journalist who exposed General McChrystal. Then the master investigative journalist writes this: "Here is a brief synopsis of what Backus is telling people about Schwartz." Notice that he quotes nothing....he is summarizing what Backus is telling (other?) people. Then he goes on to dish more rumors with no quotes, no sources, just vague BS.
Schwartz has become the butt of jokes and sort of a laughingstock within the organization for his behavior on the field (instructing Jim Harbaugh to know the rules when he doesn’t, mouthing off at opposing players, etc.) and off of it.

The above quote sounds like the writers view of him not people inside the organization doesn't it? And look how the guy writes..."know the rules when he doesn't". Sounds like he is saying Harbaugh doesn't know the rules.

Then he accuses him of cheating on his wife. I highly doubt the Lions organization would have anything to do with finding his mistress a place to live. Isn't Jim Schwartz a millionaire? I'm sure he would handle that himself if it were true.

Then he ends the article with the Killer Kowalski reference...OK douche at your funeral they will reveal how this unsubstantiated article was true all along.

I can't believe none of you ever called this out.

Micro,

I believe he was posting regarding your spelling of dissension. I'm not quite sure why, as it is commonly misspelled that way with the 'tion' at the end.
