Bah! Where I went to college we brought a 16 gallon keg of beer in each half and security held the gates open for us.

of course, if it wasn't for our fraternity there would have only been about 200 people in the stands, but with us there there were 300. During our homecomings we had 500 alumni and we took over the visiting team stands.

I will agree with the article though. For the first time, my B1G attending son did not want season football tickets because they are too expensive, he doesn't want the hassle of selling them, and the games are not fun.(what he said) The price is too high.

Right now, he is over by the stadium tailgating then going home to sleep once the game starts.

Flask in boot. We poured some serious whiskey in the Tech end zone stands over the years.

I always crotched the flask and shotgunned the beers on our way in.

@Husker regardless of attendance that is pretty fucking awesome. Which college? I am just assuming it wasn't Nebraska because of attendance.

At my university all students got home game tickets free......or rather, it was part of tuition.

I can't afford student tix here. $290 a year! I just don't have that to spend.

With television quality the way it is, it's a much closer decision between spending 200 bucks or whatever on season tickets and being crammed into a hot, sweaty student section just to be at the game or seeing everything in the luxury of your air conditioned apartment. I still had season tickets every year, but I'm not going to pretend there weren't several games I'd wished we'd just stayed home and that was 10+ years ago.

Since then the alma mater has aggressively clamped down on what tailgating there was left, parking, etc. Gameday experience is diminished in a lot of places whereas couch, beer, HD TV and 20 minutes of downtime with your girlfriend at halftime are getting more appealing every year.

All that being said, if the fans expect a good, winning team, they'll still probably show up. The alternatives are just a lot better now than when they were 20, 30, 40 years ago when these stadiums became so huge.
