Reds suspend Jose Arredondo

The Reds suspended minor-league pitcher Jose Arredondo recently, but general manager Walt Jocketty told the Cincinnati Enquirer Saturday the suspension will be short.

"It was a disciplinary action we took, nothing major, but something we felt we had to address," Jocketty said.

Arredondo did not make the team out of spring training about has been pitching at Triple-A Louisville. He has a 4.15 ERA, with 35 strikeouts and 20 walks in 21 1/3 innings.

There has to be a lot more to this story? He didn't make the team out of spring training, but he had a pretty good spring. Now I will agree that he seems to not be doing so well in Louisville. Something is going on with this guy. I doubt we will ever see this guy up with the Reds again

Suspended ... probably for insolent behavior or some kind of argument with a teammate or coach. It's obviously not for substance abuse.

yeah john, this has been a strange subplot to the reds season thus far. and i think mr. eburg is correct in assuming there is more to the arredondo story. it's really too bad, because he seemed to be getting stronger and better (post-surgery) with every game and ostensibly added excellent depth to an already strong staff. there were a couple times i thought he would be called up this year and he was not. cloak & dagger stuff to be sure.

Might have said something when Parra was brought up and not him. But to Parra's defense he was pitching better down there. Then they may of told him he wouldn't be down there long, and he's getting frustrated.

Arredondo isn't a rookie. He isn't injured. He hadn't pitched badly. He isn't happy about the bus ride league, and with Parra and Hoover on the big club, I can understand Arredondo's frustration with decisions that affect him.
