Stop. Just stop. I command you to stop.

Awful.

Pitiful.

Horrifying.

Slow, robotic, scared.

STOP.

Nobody is stepping up to be the #2 receiver.....they should have signed a veteran to give these young guys a chance to watch and learn......

But, but, but..... I thought we'd be fine. You can just line up anyone next to AJ right? We drafted two all-pros..... Something like that.

Marvin Jones might be the answer, but Marvin probably won't play him until his third year. We'll miss Simpson way more than people want to believe.

I was one of Simpson's only supporters on this board...but I think they'll be fine. I didnt see the game last night, but from what I've seen of Tate and Binns they looked better than I expected. Gresham will be a huge part of this offense. So you've got an elite WR in Green and a TE with Pro Bowl tools. They also have very good young talent in Jones and Sanu. We'll see about Tate and Binns...but all in all a lot of teams would kill to have the Bengals 'problems' with pass catchers.

Both Tate and Binns had a play here or there that was nice. Binns had that route run perfectly on the fake before slant that brough the ball to the 1 yard line. Tate had a nice catch earlier. The biggest issue is and will be consistency. The nice plays look real nice like with any other receiver, but the rest of the time they struggle to get separation, and we saw a lot of that last nice. Neither is a prototypical #2, not even close. Simpson wasn't great but his speed and athleticism allowed him to get by.

Teams would kill to have Green and that's it. I'm sure there are teams out there that wouldn't mind having Gresham's talent, but truth be told, he hasn't shown anything yet - though I don't believe it's entirely his fault - for anyone to drool over. There are no other pass catchers on this roster that would even be intriguing to anyone.

In Binns we're talking about a guy who was undrafted, who they picked up and seem to like. So what if he doesnt pan out? Easy come, easy go. If it were Green that we were talking about, a guy that went #4 in the draft, that would be an issue. Coincidentally weren't you the guy that said Green was 'terrible' during last preseason?

If you look at them as a unit, you've got Green + Gresham. Most teams do not have an elite WR. I think we can safely put Green in the Fitzgerald, C.Johnson, A.Johnson tier of WR's. Most teams do not have a TE that is as dynamic as Gresham (who still hasnt reached his potential yet). I'd say more than a few teams would gladly scoop up Sanu, Jones and Hawkins if given the chance. I'd say the cupboard is pretty full.

and we've got Orson Charles who I think will be a very good TE and is athletic enough to basically be a huge slot reciever. Yes, I would've liked them to kept Simpson or got a vet as a #2 for this year...but I think that both Sanu and Jones will be very good in time. I really have a hard time bitching about the talent that the Bengals have at WR and TE.

Lol at all these threads now. This board is hilariously Homer-ish at times. "Our Defense will be fine no matter what CB moves to S"

"Why would we consider signing a guy like Plaxico Burress (or even look at Mike Wallace) when we have Armon Binns?"

"BJGE is an everydown back who NEVER fumbles"

These are all laughable. Like I said in March, 8-8 will be a GREAT year for this team. We're just not that good.

I don't remember anybody saying any of those things. I agree with you on 8-8, but I think the Bengals are a good team with a brutal schedule. They'll be better than they were last year, but I see them more at .500 than 9-7.

I just don't see how the Bengals are a better team than last year. With injuries and not picking up anyone of note in FA, how is our defense any better than we were last year? (maybe you could say the REALLY shitty players wont be playing??)
And on offense, as much as you all hate on Benson, I think you will be very disappointed if the load is resting on BJGE and Scott. I don't see that as a noticable upgrade at all. We're weaker at WR, OL is always a question mark, and Gresham is still the same Gresham we're waiting to live up to potential.
In fact, I have trouble pointing to one single position where I can say "yes, we are greatly improved here over last year," regardless of the way our schedule stacks up this year

Personnel wise, yeah they didnt make many changes. I think they'll be better because their key players are young and if they progress like I think they will that will make the whole team better. If you look at their core guys (Dalton, Green, Atkins, Gresham, Whitworth, Hall) with the exception of Whit and Hall they all are young and figure to improve.

Because of their youth, they are a team is ascending. They also knocked the draft out and added more young talent to that core. So I think that this year you'll see more growing pains but a team that is poised (talent wise) to make a major leap next year. I'd say they added talent to the Oline with Zeitler. Boling is a guy that should be better with a year under his belt. We'll see (I liked him coming out of the draft). The D-line is stocked. Moch has been flashing during the preseason as well as Burfict which bodes well for the future of the LBers. The secondary is a major concern. I think kirkpatrick is very talented but will struggle as a rook (as most rookie CB's do). Hall looks like his still working his way back. The safeties both stuggle v. the pass which is not good in a passing league. I think with the QB's they play this year if the front 7 can't get pressure is could get ugly at times. If Kirkpatrick can step up that would definitely help bc Clements is far too slow at CB.

Yes, Green is elite, but the buck stops there.

Sanu and Jones were what, 3rd and 5th rounders? If teams thought they were anything better, they would've been drafted higher. And they haven't done anything yet to prove they should've been drafted higher or anyone made a mistake by passing on them. Hawkins is a slot receiver, nothing more nothing less. His value is limited.

To even mention Orson Charles is laughable. Half of the league probably hasn't even heard of him.

Orson Charles speaks to the depth at TE. Yes, I think he'll be good. I could be wrong. I think Sanu and Jones will be good (Jones could be really good). So no, they havent done anything yet...but the point is they have young talent there which IMO is legit...and yes I believe if any of those guys were let go teams would scramble to pick them up.

You add in Green and Gresham and I'm happy with the talent they have. I mean, for fucks sake Green is all world and Gresham is argualbly a top 5 TE in the AFC who figures to just get better. They're both young. Of course I'd love to have a probowler at every starting position but all things considered I think the bengals are set up very well for the present and future.

I think in other drafts Sanu and Jones might have gone higher. Sanu is a good athelete, and he is an exciting player. His experience at WR I think is the question. I guess we're stuck with Tate at #2 for a bit. I'm not excited about it, but patience with him will wear thin with the talent behind him if Tate does not perform.

Tate should take Binns with him to the waiver wire... they both stink.

Binns as #2 receiver... who in the hell honestly thought that was a good idea?

At the end of last year our cbs were talking of how hard it was to cover Binns during practice....so I guess that means our corners just really suck......

It's probably that they're just not good, but this is a management issue. To rely on an undrafted guy who was decent, not good or great by any means, in college to step up from a practice squad to starting receiver without looking to fill a hole in FA is inexcusable. Drafting a midround guy out of a bad Big East school isn't a fix.
