I was just re-watching Aquaman and the SFX are 10+ years behind the MCU. The fight with Black Manta looked like a small step up from Power Rangers.

WB continuing to show everything is going well as part of a master plan for DC by announcing that Aquaman 2 will be delayed almost a year to Monday, December 25, 2023.

I've heard from more than one person James Wan has had a worse experience on AQUAMAN 2 than he had on FURIOUS 7, a movie he was having a terrible time on (hi, Vin!) *before* Paul Walker died.

I am willing to give Gunn some rope, but basically everything in the pipe currently is rotten meat he was told to make a gourmet meal out of. Let’s see what they produce in ‘25 forward.
I can see why Gunn cut the Batman scenes. Considering the DCEU is dead why give people teases for things you have no intent on delivering on?

Then Gunn isn’t the dude to revive it. They had all of the pieces to salvage it. DC had the perfect Superman, WW, AM, Cyborg, Harley Quinn etc. Individually the characters are popular but the writing sucked and them doing BvS way too early killed it.

All those people, particularly the trinity, were great but were just wasted in terrible movies. Now after 4 embarrassing post-COVID flops in a row, the DCEU is just dead and they are forced to reboot, and the actors are just too old for a new universe (Affleck is over 50, Cavill is 40 while Gadot is close to that).

I think that they are repeating some of the same mistakes by going immediately with a Superman movie. They should be patient and first rebuild some goodwill through smaller projects like Peacemaker before bringing out the big guns.

I know they were quick cuts, but from 0:18 - 0:22 was more typical horrible CGI.

If you can't do CGI well, stop doing it so much. It pulls you out of the story and you focus on the bad effects instead.

We'll go from "they will fix it before release" to "it was meant to look that way"...

And this movie, like most DC content, was meant to be watched streaming on Max or a Redbox rental.

But DC has always had bad, over the top cgi. Almost Transformers level (though Transformers had better cgi).

DC movies are just a shitshow. Go back to the practical effects of SMTMP and go from there. CGI should be a special side dish, not the main course.

Before the current slate of movies, the only one that had embarrassingly bad CGI was Josstice league because of the reshoots. For all its story-problems, BvS was a gorgeous movie with great effects (with the exception of the generic monster Doomsday at the end).

Right now it's pretty obvious that WB just don't want to keep spending money on these projects and are releasing them with incomplete effects. The Flash was just ridiculous, some of the effects were Scorpion King level.
