I have no problem with having a veteran QB as your back up. And you hope that when the time comes they will be able to dial up some of the old magic. The problem with Orton is that there was never any magic.

Orton is a very good backup NFL QB. This is exactly why we paid him such a big amount of money each year to hold the clip board. We are a better team with Romo no doubt and we should not be a favorite this week of course, but we CAN win this game with Orton. We aren't a very good team, but neither is Philly.

If castle can be Philly than Orton has a punchers chance at least.

Romo did post on his facebook page last night not to believe everything you read on ESPN. Maybe he will play, who knows. If he can without chance of a career ending injury, Romo will play, but if he can't move around or throw the deep ball, Orton would be the best bet. Its better to have a healthy backup starting than an injured starter.

If he can, he will.

As someone that's injured his back, I have some serious doubts about Romo playing. It's just one of those injuries that can seemingly make every motion hurt. Sometimes, it can even hurt to breathe.

I suspect Romo's agent or someone in the Cowboys FO spilled the beans about this yesterday. I think Garrett wanted this under wraps in hopes of keeping the Eagles guessing. I think he's trying to provide some damage control at this point.

Phil Simms said he has noticed it in Romo the last 3 or 4 games. Of course he did his Thanksgiving game so he saw it first hand. He says he passes have lost zip, but he has been playing. Maybe he has been playing with it all along. He told JJ he was feeling better last night supposedly.

I think that is a possibility and would explain his poor accuracy and the inability to throw a deep ball anywhere near the WR.

Here is my thing, if there was an MRI machine on the sideline that spit out news immediately, would he have stayed in the game the other day. He obviously played with it and didnt look that limited except on a few handoffs right after it happened.

He can get an epidural to alleviate the pain. He's playing unless he risks serious damage to his back.

Nowhere else on the body do you find such extremes then your back. One minute your fine, the next it's pure hell.

I think he plays. If he does not play then this could be the type of injury where he ends up retiring. Romo has swown over and over that he will play with pain. They should still use murray 25 carries minimum

I agree the need to run the ball. Doesn't matter if it's Romo or Orton back there.

ESPN by Todd Archer.

Sometime after the Cowboys returned to Dallas following their victory at Washington on Sunday, quarterback Tony Romo received an epidural injection to relieve pain and reduce inflammation related to the herniated disk in his lower back, according to sources.

It is typically two or three days before doctors can determine whether the injection has succeeded. This is the normal conservative treatment protocol for such a back injury, and the Cowboys hope that it enables Romo to recover in time to play in Sunday night's winner-take-all matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

But sources close to the quarterback consider that a long shot and remain skeptical he can safely play and function as an NFL quarterback, especially in such a short time.

"I would be very, very surprised if he got back on the field," one source said.

At this time, Romo has been advised that he likely will need surgery eventually, but sources say that no such procedure has been scheduled.

Doctors often treat patients with epidurals to block pain and promote healing. Often, multiple injections are required over time before the patient's symptoms dramatically improve. It is also possible the damage is such that the injections will not provide relief.

So you think he either plays in 5 days or retires forever? I think maybe there is more grey area than that, but I'm good with 25 carries unless they stack the box like crazy...and if I'm them, I'm showing 8 or 9...
