he will be ready for lester on opening day . he is taking groundballs but they limit it to straight in with only one step l or r . getting another exam on the knee just being careful .

He's going to be reevaluated on March 18th. If everything looks good, he should be cleared for all baseball activities.

Surgeon clears Orioles third baseman Manny Machado to continue rehab - baltimoresun.com

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said the team received good news about Manny Machado and his follow-up appointment Thursday in Los Angeles.

"Nothing's changed, but it's good news to hear somebody else say what our training staff is saying," Showalter said.

ESPN.com quoted Machado’s surgeon, Neal ElAttrache, as saying the third baseman’s left knee is “tracking normally” and Machado can continue with his rehabilitation. There is still no timetable mentioned in the report as to when he can play in games.

The Orioles anticipated that ElAttrache would give Machado clearance, but Showalter said previously all that would mean is that Machado could continue his rehab.

When Machado is ready – he has been held back from running for a week due to the release of scar tissue -- Showalter said it is likely Machado would play in minor league games so he can build up his at-bats. That also would make it possible to back-date a disabled list stint if necessary. Showalter said a decision to put Machado on the DL could wait until the team’s final exhibition game in Norfolk, Va.
